Bush, McCain: Social Security attacks unwarranted
can't we all just get along?

http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-032205bush_lat,0,7615122.story?coll=la-home-headlines\

ALBUQUERQUE — At the start of a potentially crucial congressional recess in which lawmakers will hear from constituents about President Bush's plans to overhaul Social Security, Bush and his allies today pleaded with Democrats and the AARP to stop attacking their ideas.

<snip>

McCain, who appeared with Bush for both days of a two-day western swing through New Mexico, Arizona and Colorado, pointedly addressed the AARP, the 35-million-member retirement group that has galvanized opposition to Bush's plans among seniors. Choosing his words carefully, McCain accused opponents of wanting to wait until 2042 — the year the system's trust fund is projected to run out of money.

"I want to say to our friends in the AARP, and they are my friends, come to the table with us," McCain said. "We not only have an obligation to seniors, but we have an obligation to future generations."

Such conciliatory remarks, which echoed statements made Monday by McCain as well as Vice President Dick Cheney and House Ways and Means Chairman Bill Thomas, reflected a recognition by White House strategists that unified Democratic opposition to the Bush-backed overhaul and the continued popularity of the AARP are contributing to a steady decline in public opinion for the president's performance on Social Security.

20. Me too...
Apparently integrity is fleeting... you have to give that up to be a part of today's Republican Party. It's very disappointing to see McCain be assimilated into the GOP Neocon Borg.

24. I think that Bushie has something on McCain
why else would anyone want to cozy themselves up to Bush when his numbers are dropping and polls say that most Americans want SS left alone.

I'm not a fan of McCain but I am sure he can read the writing on the wall.

6. butthole buddies want to piratize social security
ask McCain about being a bought Keating-cheater.

http://www.realchange.org/mccain.htm

excerpt:

McCain was one of the "Keating Five," congressmen investigated on ethics charges for strenuously helping convicted racketeer Charles Keating after he gave them large campaign contributions and vacation trips.

Charles Keating was convicted of racketeering and fraud in both state and federal court after his Lincoln Savings & Loan collapsed, costing the taxpayers $3.4 billion. His convictions were overturned on technicalities; for example, the federal conviction was overturned because jurors had heard about his state conviction, and his state charges because Judge Lance Ito (yes, that judge) screwed up jury instructions. Neither court cleared him, and he faces new trials in both courts.)

Though he was not convicted of anything, McCain intervened on behalf of Charles Keating after Keating gave McCain at least $112,00 in contributions. In the mid-1980s, McCain made at least 9 trips on Keating's airplanes, and 3 of those were to Keating's luxurious retreat in the Bahamas. McCain's wife and father-in-law also were the largest investors (at $350,000) in a Keating shopping center; the Phoenix New Times called it a "sweetheart deal."

and here's a lovely McCain quote:

"Do you know why Chelsea Clinton is so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father." -- John McCain

Nasdaq 1,989.34 -18.17 (-0.91%)

and the way he was treated. And also his time as a POW. That quote about Chelsea Clinton is revolting - he's no better than any of the other scumbag GOPers.

thanks!

http://familyrightsassociation.com/info/stockholm/syndrome.html

The term, Stockholm Syndrome, was coined in the early 70's to describe the puzzling reactions of four bank employees to their captor. On August 23, 1973, three women and one man were taken hostage in one of the largest banks in Stockholm. They were held for six days by two ex-convicts who threatened their lives but also showed them kindness. To the world's surprise, all of the hostages strongly resisted the government's efforts to rescue them and were quite eager to defend their captors. Indeed, several months after the hostages were saved by the police, they still had warm feelings for the men who threatened their lives. Two of the women eventually got engaged to the captors.

12. Bush continually attacks the poor through middle classes...
but can't take it when folks fight back?

No one wants to wait until 2042. We do want to do the right thing, however. And that has nothing to do with Bush's "plan."

29. What kind of CRAP reporting is this?
"McCain accused opponents of wanting to wait until 2042 — the year the system's trust fund is projected to run out of money."

From what I've read, the fund is expected to only be able to pay out at 80% by 2042, not "run out of money"!

This SS dismantling is all a ponzi scheme to keep the stock market proped up long enough for these scumbags to cash out! And leave the market crash to the younger generation, making them suckers.
