DeLay at center of political storm
DeLay at center of political storm

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Tom DeLay, who has wielded political power with uncommon efficiency, looks into the mirror and sees a victim of politics.

.......

Either way, the man known as the Hammer is taking a pounding.

His troubles began last fall, when three political fund-raisers with ties to him were indicted in his home state of Texas. Then the House ethics committee admonished him, not once but three times. Since then, questions have been raised about whether he knew about the dubious sources of money behind trips he took to Britain and South Korea. He blames politics.

"It is very unfortunate that the Democrats have no agenda. All they can do is try to tear down the House and burn it down in order to gain power," he said in defending himself.
......

DeLay fights government regulation at every turn, a position hardened during the years before he came to Washington when he ran a pest control business and railed at "Gestapo" environmental regulators. He's also a leader among religious conservatives, pushing for a more God-centered nation.

Ahead of the 2000 presidential race, he outlined a vision where "we march forward with a biblical worldview, a worldview that says God is our Creator, that man is a sinner, and that we will save this country by changing the hearts and minds of Americans."

2. I never understand the passive voice in these things
"his troubles began" as if he didn't CREATE the troubles himself. As if he isn't 100% responsible for the deep yogurt he will find himself in.

Just plays into his victim complex.

32. It's no more "interesting" than praying to a god with so many
intermediaries showing the rest of us mere mortals the "true" path to Him. Oh, and by the way, they all need money...

27. My God's bigger than your God, and smarter, too. My God's gonna beat the
crap outta your god, and he'll wish he'd never been born. When my god was in the 6th grade, he could already beat up the whole football team by himself.

So, my god's gonna make this a god-centered country, and then you'll be sorry you ever picked on me.

30. Actually you know nothing about me
It is just an expression. I also purposely spelled it the way I did. Secondly I am a Christian, although an extremely liberal one, who is on a spiritual journey that is quite difficult right now. After all is said and done I might not be a Christian.

You misunderstand my statement though. I am sick and tired of fundies and their insistence that we are to worship the Christian God because as a Christian I also have a few brain cells working and realize that not everyone in this country wants to worship at all any god. Anyhow, here a little more about me and my religion.

Losing my religion

20. Delay is no victim; he is a volunteer!
Victim/Volunteer © 1990 Christine Lavin

(Excerpts ... my emphasis in bold)

And he thinks of himself as a victim of fate
When he just volunteers
He has invested his money in well bred astrologers
Healers, Psychic Seers
And now he blames every tilted constellation
Or every negative vibration
He's not a victim of UFO infestation
He's a volunteer

Oh pick the numbers
Shake the sticks
Read the tea leaves
Light the wicks
Point the finger
Pass the buck
Blame it all on lady luck

Do you think of yourself as a victim?
Or do you volunteer?
Do you let somebody else call all of your shots?
Do you cower in the corner in fear?

Or do you follow because it is easy to do?
Do you fool with modern high tech voodoo?
Too bad if you're a victim but whatever you do
Don't volunteer
Why would ya volunteer?
Please don't volunteer!

http://www.christinelavin.com/00031705vv.html

Don't try to lay no victim shit on us Tommy Boy. You are a fucking volunteer from day one, and you have been begging for this shit-storm for quite some time. Sit back and take it like a bug-man, you toxic little turd.

7. "He fights government regulation at every turn"
Well, not every turn. If you're bankrupt because of medical bills or improvidently extended credit, then it's the government's job to make sure that poor banks are protected from rapacious paupers. Or, if you happen to think differently from him concerning a private medical matter, he's more than happy to bring the entire weight of the government down on your ass.

16. Yes he did. It was during the redistricting battle when the Dems of
the State legislature fled to Oklahoma. As a matter of fact, one of our state reps, Lon Burnam, has a lawsuit calling him to task on this little matter.

Lon was taking funds for the legal battle, but because the "house" is in session he can't take any monies now. I've donated to his fund in the past and talked with him a few weeks ago about it. He needs our support when the "house" is out.

But once again, yes, Tom Delay sent Homeland Security after a plane that several reps used to go to Oklahoma to avoid the battle over redistricting. Eventually the redistricting battle was won by the Republicans when one lone Dem crossed over and joined their side. It was a very sad moment in Texas, orchestrated and directed by Tom DeLay! He needs to go home and back to his bug business, permanently. He deserves to be in prison but I'd be happy with him just being reduced to a roach killer again with no employees.

"I do not recognize the authority of a court that hangs the gold-fringed flag. A flag with gilded edges is the flag of an admirality court. An admirality court signifies a naval court-martial. I cannot be court-martialled twice. That is all."
