5. Let's go to the scoreboard, Brent: KIA: 1524, WMD: 0
Wow, Biff, you'd think they would have turned up a little something by now. Maybe they need to re-think that playbook!

Could be, Brent. And we'll be right back after these words!

7. HOW MANY MORE GEORGIE, HOW MANY MORE?

WHEN A SOLDIER MAKES IT HOME

Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier packs his memories
As he leaves Afghanistan
And back home they don't know too much
There's just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was hell

And there won't be any victory parades
For those that's coming back
They'll fly them in at midnight
And unload the body sacks
And the living will be walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seems to care these days
When a soldier makes it home

They'll say it wasn't easy
Just another job well done
As the government in Kabul falls
To the sounds of rebel guns
And the faces of the comrades
Being blown out of the sky
Leaves you bitter with the feeling
That they didn't have to die

Halfway around the world tonight
In a strange and foreign land
A soldier unpacks memories
That he saved from Vietnam
Back home they didn't know too much
There was just no way to tell
I guess you had to be there
For to know that war was hell

And there wasn't any big parades
For those that made it back
They flew them in at midnight
And unloaded all the sacks
And the living were left walking down
A long and lonely road
Because nobody seemed to care back then
When a soldier made it home

The night is coming quickly
And the stars are on their way
As I stare into the evening
Looking for the words to say
That I saw the lonely soldier
Just a boy that's far from home
And I saw that I was just like him
While upon this earth I roam

And there may not be any big parades
If I ever make it back
As I come home under cover
Through a world that can't keep track
Of the heroes who have fallen
Let alone the ones who won't
Which is why nobody seems to care
When a soldier makes it home

9. We are safer without Saddam in power, chimp said so.
The people in Iraq are better off, chimp said so.

Major combat operations are over, chimp said so.

The truth about Saddam's secret WMD would be "revealed", chimp said so.

Another dead American, killed in the interest of neocon imperialism.

11. Army spc. seriously injured in Iraq (mortar round, mess tent)
Michael Guerrero is in stable condition in Walter Reed's intensive care unit, said Joaquin Perez, a spokesman for Guam Delegate Madeleine Bordallo's Guam district office. The fact that Guerrero was moved to the U.S. mainland so quickly could speak to the severity of his injuries, Perez said.

"I'm not too sure exactly what happened. I'm hearing two different stories," Tara Guerrero, 28, said. "All I know is it was during lunchtime (at a mess hall) when he was injured by a mortar round... He is seriously injured."

Perez, of the congresswoman's office, said the military for some reason failed to immediately notify Guerrero's family that he had been injured. Although he was injured last week, his family was officially notified Monday, Perez said -- a delay that the congressional office plans to look into.

13. you know lebkuchen...
they are keeping a LOT of info from us right now. There were many car bombings and firefights and mortars lobbed in the past five days or so with no comment on US casualties. The shit is deep!

14. For the Marine and his family
May you find peace.

"Watch, O Lord, with those who wake,
or watch, or weep tonight,
and give your angels and saints
charge over those who sleep.

Tend your sick ones, O Lord Christ,
rest your weary ones,
bless your dying ones,
soothe your suffering ones,
pity your afflicted one,
shield your joyous ones.

And all for your love's sake.
Amen."

~St. Augustine

We are still praying for our young Marine as he battles for his life in a German hospital.

God Damn this war.

19. "Dulce Et Decorum Est" Wilfred Owen (at least my 150th post of it here)
Bent double, like old beggars under sacks,
Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through sludge,
Till on the haunting flares we turned our backs
And towards our distant rest began to trudge.
Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots
But limped on, blood-shod. All went lame; all blind;
Drunk with fatigue; deaf even to the hoots
Of disappointed shells that dropped behind.

GAS! Gas! Quick, boys!-- An ecstasy of fumbling,
Fitting the clumsy helmets just in time;
But someone still was yelling out and stumbling
And floundering like a man in fire or lime.--
Dim, through the misty panes and thick green light
As under a green sea, I saw him drowning.

In all my dreams, before my helpless sight,
He plunges at me, guttering, choking, drowning.

If in some smothering dreams you too could pace
Behind the wagon that we flung him in,
And watch the white eyes writhing in his face,
His hanging face, like a devil's sick of sin;
If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood
Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs,
Obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud
Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues,--
My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori.

The crux:

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est
Pro patria mori*
*(It is sweet and right to die for ones country).

IT is NOT! Never forget that! Not only is it the old lie; it is the big lie as well!
