unless he was "scripted".

Does anyone buy this horseshit 'town hall' format anymore, anyway?

Though, the very fact that they're there, listening to this BS, makes me think they're rethugs. In which case, they'd be averse to anything disrupting their brainwashing session with Count Dracula, hence happy that the guy is being ejected.

Hard to say

They are smiling because they are arrogant self righteous peons who are sitting in a privilaged position, with the white house, congress and senate stacked in their favour.

Note how the story reads "social security reform"

Once again the Repubs are framing the issue. It would be more accurate to say "destruction of social security" because that is what the Republicans want.

When I read or see things such as this I am struck by how offended some people get when this administration is compared to other historical dictatorship government policies and/or actions.

What ever happened to learning from the past ? And what is so bad about making historical comparisons anyway ? I never quite understand that part ???

"big" news in Milwaukee at the time

Part of what Milwaukee Magazine says about it:

http://www.milwaukeemagazine.com/122004/pressroom.html

Overexposed

A Journal Sentinel photo of Dick Cheney is unexpectedly revealing. by peter robertson

Joining Vice President Dick Cheney’s motorcade in Green Bay, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel photographer Dale Guldan hoped to capture a unique image during an otherwise scripted campaign visit in September.

Did he ever.

On the way to Milwaukee, however, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr convinced Cheney to make an unscheduled stop in Glendale to visit local favorite Kopp’s Frozen Custard, according to New York Times reporter Rick Lyman.

When Cheney ordered a decaf coffee and sat on a concrete ledge outside, Kopp’s manager Scott Borkin graciously brought him a sample of frozen custard. “The guy came all the way from the White House,” Borkin says. “He’s got to try our custard.”

The normally serious Cheney flashed a winning smile for Borkin, and Guldan snapped an attention-grabbing photo that would later be chosen for the front page of the paper’s September 11 Metro section.

Guldan got a call from a reader the next day. “Did you notice anything unusual about that picture?” the reader asked.

Upon closer inspection, it seems the vice president’s smile was not his biggest, ahem, asset. Is that what we think it is?

“You’re not imagining it,” Guldan says of the unintentionally revealing photo.

Let’s just say the snugness of Cheney’s pants left little to the imagination, and we’re not talking about his waistline.

And the writer for the Local section called it propaganda, Texas-style.

refering to these propaganda tours as "town-hall meetings" - you might as well call them "two minute hates."

In a bid to reclaim the english language (and the good sense that can be imparted through it's conscientious use) we should call these meetings what they are -
"staged policy-promotion events." And give the lying a day off, 'cause god knows it's getting tired (and since the 'Press' isn't doing much of anything to keep it in check, we have to do a fair amount of it ourselves).

54. A Democratic student at UofA, is refused entry
there is an article posted in the Arizona State forum on how Democrats are not allowed into a taxpayer funded Presidential Town Hall meeting:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=139x1690

Tucson, AZ - President Bush's taxpayer funded Social Security "Forum"
in Tucson today did not welcome young American Steven Gerner, who was
quietly standing in line waiting to hear the President deliver a
speech that he felt he needed to pay close attention to. Gerner, 19,
was one of 1400 Tucsonans who properly obtained a ticket to the
tightly screened forum, but he would not get the chance to actually
make it inside the event. The reason: Steven was wearing a University
of Arizona Young Democrats t-shirt.

Twenty minutes before the doors opened for the Tucson Civic Center
forum, an event staffer approached Steven, asked for a better view of
his t-shirt, then demanded his ticket.

"When the staffer took my ticket, he literally crumpled it up in his
hand and then walked away. I was too shocked and frankly too
disappointed to even do or say anything." said Steven Gerner, a
University of Arizona student.

The staffer returned twenty minutes later, told Gerner that his name
had been "reported" and warned that there was no way he could gain
entry into the event.

"I really wanted a chance to hear the Bush side of the Social Security
debate. Plus, I have never seen a President speak and even though I am
a dedicated Democrat – I was excited to see the leader of my
country."

Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 02:21 PM by EVDebs
"According to some estimates we cannot track $2.3 trillion in transactions," Rumsfeld admitted.

$2.3 trillion — that's $8,000 for every man, woman and child in America. To understand how the Pentagon can lose track of trillions, consider the case of one military accountant who tried to find out what happened to a mere $300 million.
