Spreading the message
----------------------
PETER GORRIE
STAFF REPORTER
----------------------
"Keep it simple" is the key to the White House, failed Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean told members of his party from around the world last night.

One major reason his party lost the 2004 race to the "brain-dead" Republicans is that it has a "tendency to explain every issue in half an hour of detail," Dean told the semi-annual meeting of Democrats Abroad, which brought about 150 members from Canada and 30 other countries to the Toronto for two days.

"I'm going to be very disciplined about how we deliver messages. We can have policy deliberations in rooms like this. On TV, we have to be very focused."

The Democrats, in fact, will try to copy the Republicans, who are masters at making their message stick, he said. "The Democrats will have three things, maybe four, that we're going to talk about."

2. Um, I Think The Elected Dems Were "Brain Dead" For Not Fighting BBV
and brain dead isn't a very good adjective anyway.

Short-sighted, self-centered, control freaks, blind to the average person's needs, lacking in empathy ... YES.

The Republicans may be a lot of things but they aren't brain dead.

28. Amen. Unless Dean & other noteworthy Dems are vocal about BBV,
we can kiss the next election cycle good-bye just like the '04 cycle. And Dean, tho he's saying the right things I think, and inspiring the rank & file (what rank & file is left after the Dems deserted the cause of fair elections), won't be anymore successful than any other Dem in bringing victories -- the only cure for the sickness of the country.

3. Wonder if they'll be talking about that
microphone manipulated "scream"..ten years from now?

"The shrill was gone in yesterday's speech, but Dean appeared relaxed and enthusiastic. Party members treated him like a star and gave him three long standing ovations."

Thank god he's not as mealy mouthed as Kerry whom I voted for but was so goddamn gentlemanly that he sounded weak. DEan tell it like it is in spades!

27. Kerry did not sound weak
Edited on Sun Mar-20-05 09:30 PM by karynnj
The fact that he is a gentleman and in control of himself made him was helpful in the debates. Even with Kerry's politeness, polls said more people thought he ran a negative campaign not Bush.

I hope that Dean did not refer to the Republicans as brain dead and that the article is just poorly written. If Kerry would have called Bush or the Republicans brain dead, he would have lost by a greater margin.

Kerry was running against a media that was not friendly or the least bit helpful - the main time he gained strength was when people could see him - which was during the 3 debates.

6. So long as the Dems don't resort to saying
"Go fuck yourself!"

They can pretty much say anything and be on the high ground.

I look forward to seeing a better Democratic party.

12. They're just trying to denigrate the man and take away from the
amazing work he's done to rejuvenate and revitalize the democratic party. He's been absolutely amazing, fearless, and just plain perfect in the way he's handled his new job as leader of the DNC.

P.S. I was a Clarkie, still am. But there's no doubt about what a Godsend that Howard Dean has been for us.

13. "Failed Democratic Presidential Candidate"
Isn't this "Framing" as explained by George Lakoff? It is a form of brainwashing and it has Karl Rove's stench about it.

"failed repuke presidential candidate"

Just imagine how much better the world would be if we didn't have these two assholes.

Nixon begat raygun begat bunkerboy.

Failed indeed.

I trust in the future, being the fair and impartial media that they arem, that Frist, McCain and all the other repukes who may run will be termed equally?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Yeah right!

Also notice that quotes were used around the "brain dead" but not "failed".

29. I'm glad Dean gets it ...
it's not the message, it's how it is delivered. The problem lies in paring it down with out losing the rationale - something the republicans have not yet mastered.
