CNH Global, UAW reach proposed contract agreement
Published Friday, March 18, 2005 09:16:42 AM CST)

Associated Press

RACINE, Wis. - CNH Global and its local union have reached a proposed contract agreement that could end months of labor dispute that involves 350 workers in Racine.

Members of the United Auto Workers Local 180 on Saturday will vote on the proposal, which will be presented with a neutral position, said John Valko, president of the local union.

"We don't have a tentative agreement," he said. "We have a package we will take back to the members. They've been out there (on the picket lines) for 20 weeks, so we need to let them make a decision."

Union workers from four CNH facilities walked out at Nov. 3, six months after the last 6-year contract ended. <snip>

1. UAW Workers Vote to Accept CNH Global Offer
Saturday, March 19, 2005 5:14:45 PM ET

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Union workers who have been locked out of CNH Global NV facilities for almost four months approved a new contract on Saturday with the farm equipment maker and will return to work next week, the company and union said.

The United Auto Workers said CNH, majority-owned by Italian carmaker Fiat SpA, agreed to end the lockout on Monday. CNH said the workers, who unanimously rejected the company's previous offer in May, were expected back on Monday morning and no later than the end of Tuesday. <snip>

The company did not provide details of the contract deal.

The UAW said in a statement, "The new proposal included significant improvements from the company's so-called 'final offer,"' which was rejected by workers last May. <snip>
