U.S. Lists Possible Terror Attacks and Likely Toll -NYT
The Department of Homeland Security, trying to focus antiterrorism spending better nationwide, has identified a dozen possible strikes it views as most plausible or devastating, including detonation of a nuclear device in a major city, release of sarin nerve agent in office buildings and a truck bombing of a sports arena.

The document, known simply as the National Planning Scenarios, reads more like a doomsday plan, offering estimates of the probable deaths and economic damage caused by each type of attack.

They include blowing up a chlorine tank, killing 17,500 people and injuring more than 100,000; spreading pneumonic plague in the bathrooms of an airport, sports arena and train station, killing 2,500 and sickening 8,000 worldwide; and infecting cattle with foot and mouth disease at several sites, costing hundreds of millions of dollars in losses. Specific locations are not named because the events could unfold in many major metropolitan or rural areas, the document says.

The agency's objective is not to scare the public, officials said, and they have no credible intelligence that such attacks are planned. The department did not intend to release the document publicly, but a draft of it was inadvertently posted on a Hawaii state government Web site.

1. "Inadvertently posted on a Hawaii state government web site"!!!!!
Yeah, I feel real safe!

You know, it hit me today that we really are going to be attacked again, and we still have an idiot at the swicth, and we have done nothing since 9-11 to make us any safer.

31. Hey... weren't all of GanGuckert's old Talon news articles
also posted on a site out of Hawaii?

Not a state-run site, mind you, but, again, the coincidences are mind-boggling.

Should we be looking at what Hawaii has to do with anything?

4. Terror, Terror, Terror. Be afraid. Be very very afraid. says BushCo
and the NYT helpfully dances to the tune.

Exactly what Krugman said would be happening right about now is happening. BushCo playing the terror card.

9. Wow - talk about giving potential crazies some ideas!!
.
.
.

Why don't they just write a how-to manual, and hand it out to the McVeighs already IN the USA

oh

no need

just read the news

"There's a good idea - never thot of that"

Gonna have ALOT of unhappy throw-away soldiers wandering around in the near future

I'm already reading stories about homeless vets - from THIS war already!

Homeless Iraq vets showing up at shelters

So what happens to those that can't or won't access shelters?

USA is breeding it's own terrorists right at home

That's my Canuk opinion anyhoo . . .

10. Great! Why Don't We Give The Terrorists IDEAS?!?!
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 10:31 PM by mermaid
You'd almost have to believe Homeland Security and Bushco WANTS there to be more terrorist attacks in our country...or DO they want it??

I think they do. Call me cynical...but I think they want any excuse whatsoever to get a chance to declare martial law, suspend all elections, and name themselves and their cronies to be the Dictators.

I really believe they WANT another attack on our soil, and are not only provoking and egging on another attack...but are now giving our enemies IDEAS...things they might not have thought of!!

Didn't this used to be called TREASON?? :wtf:

35. They Aren't Giving Them Any Ideas
If these mopes could think them up, so could a terrorist organization. Obviously, whomever planned 9/11 was more creative than the idiots in charge of preventing it.

Terrorists don't need gov't to give them ideas. Gov't just gives terrorists reasons to strike.

13. These scenarios completely ignore the propaganda value of ....
Edited on Tue Mar-15-05 11:02 PM by TahitiNut
... the targets selected on September 11th. The (assumedly) al Qaeda 'terrorists' clearly chose targets highly symbolic of global corporatism - the "ownership society's temples." Of the people killed, a remarkably low percentage of elderly, children, and at-home-mothers were represented. This was clearly not coincidental! It's even doubtful that the collapse of the towers was foreseen with any confidence. There were many ways they could have achieved a higher body count, if indiscriminate body count was all they were after.

Now, either the people publishing these "Scenarios" are as dumb as a box of rocks, or they're consciously fomenting general fear and trepidation.

Or both.

It's really fucking stupid to pretend that we're "at war" with some foe ... and then show such abysmal lack of comprehension regarding that foe's motives, targets, strategy, and likely deployment. It's reminiscent of the stupidity regarding Ho Chi Minh's strategy and goals during the 20-year Vietnam War. Little such stupidity was evident in WW2 .. or any other 'legitimate' war. It's overwhelmingly Orwellian.

What next? Does this new taxpayer-funded bureaucracy now become the official propaganda arm of the chimp cartel? God knows they've got nothing else to do (I feel a non-sequitur rant coming on!) except buy millions of dollars worth of expensive german handguns for their "agents"!!! WTF ever happened to "buy American". :puke: at their demonic lies.

29. The "Official Propaganda Arm of the Chimp Cartel" title belongs..
solely to Karl Rove and no one else. They don't call ol' Turd Blossom the "Architect" for nothin'!

Besides.. If there's one thing Bush has been liberal about dealing out - besides the complete destruction of the middle class - is propaganda. Why limit it to just Homeland Security when this Administration has such a full agenda?? They're prepackaging news stories like Hot Pockets - all wrapped, sealed and ready for the public to eat up!!
