Striking union workers and Lockheed Martin concluded two days of weekend negotiations Sunday with an agreement for the union to put a new contract to a membership vote.
Machinists at Lockheed have been on strike since March 8 over a dispute over pay and benefits. <snip>
Local 709 officials were unavailable late Sunday. Union bylaws usually require 72 hours notice before a contract ratification vote, but the union may be able to move faster this time.
The 2,800-member International Association of Machinists Local 709 in Marietta rejected a tentative contract agreement Feb. 27 that promised 10 percent wage increases over three years and $1,500 signing bonuses — but it also would have raised health care and retirement insurance premiums. The ongoing strike is the second walkout in three years at the Cobb County defense plant that produces F/A-22 Raptor fighters and C-130J Hercules transports. <snip>
