Bush Attacks Social Security 'Scare Ads'
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=703&e=1&u=/ap/20050313/ap_on_go_pr_wh/social_security

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) and Democrats took their differences over Social Security (news - web sites) to the airwaves on Saturday, with Bush complaining about "scare ads" against his plan and Democrats denouncing his proposal as a "risky privatization scheme."

"Postponing reform will leave our children with drastic and unpleasant choices: huge tax increases that will kill jobs, massive new borrowing or sudden, painful cuts in Social Security benefits or other programs," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

In the Democratic broadcast an hour later, James Roosevelt Jr. — a grandson of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and former Social Security official — accused Bush of breaking a long tradition of bipartisan support for the retirement program.

"In 1935, my grandfather signed the Social Security Act into law, ensuring that Americans retired with financial security," Roosevelt said. "And since that time, Democrats and Republicans have worked together to protect and strengthen Social Security. Like most Americans, I agree with the guiding principle that America's workers deserve a secure retirement."

1. Note children, the following is NOT a scare tactic:
"Postponing reform will leave our children with drastic and unpleasant choices: huge tax increases that will kill jobs, massive new borrowing or sudden, painful cuts in Social Security benefits or other programs," GWB

3. you could add to that
Reforming SS Bush's way would insure that many many people would get those drastic cuts in benefits a lot sooner and that there would be a greater liklihood that the whole system would collapse and be disposed of, which has been a Republican dream since SS was instituted.

16. Exactly.
That was the 1st thing I thought of when I read the article.

Bush isn't using scare tactics? Like hell he isn't.

Well, we shouldn't worry (too much). Bush's little plan for the Investment Brokers is sinking like a rock. Melting like an ice cream cone on the sidewalk in July.

heh heh God, I love watching his failures.

4. Uh, what is he talking about?
"Postponing reform will leave our children with drastic and unpleasant choices: huge tax increases that will kill jobs, massive new borrowing or sudden, painful cuts in Social Security benefits or other programs," Bush said in his weekly radio address.

No I'd say you've already been doing a great job of that yourself considering you've lost jobs every month you've been in office, you've been borrowing billions of dollars for Iraq and proposed massive cuts to social welfare programs to pay for your tax cuts to the rich..... ass.

How come we have 800 billion dollars to pump in to Iraq but we don't have any money to put in to Social Security --- oh yeah, because of the oil, duh, how silly of me!

6. Here we go again...
Oh great, another preventative action sanctioned by GWB.

This time the WMD's,

our grandchildren,

will destroy SS if we don't act to destroy it first.

Look at the track record folks!!!
This administration can't effectively run a preventative action.

7. Classic Freudian projection. Find a fault in yourself and project
it onto someone else. Y'know, hypocrisy.

11. Pfffft..! His whole administration has been a scare tactic
Our children and grandchildren will be facing a bleak future because of his actions now....unless they are a member of the 2% that doesn't need to worry (RICH):

Clear Skies Act: they will breathe polluted air

NCLB: they will be operating with less education

Cuts in college grants: even less education

Social Security "private accounts": they will have less money
Record Deficit: they will have drastic and unpleasant choices: huge tax increases that will kill jobs, massive new borrowing or sudden, painful cuts in Social Security benefits or other programs

VA benefits cut: they can be a soldier but can't afford to get injured

Dollar greatly devalued: they will possibly be living in another Great Depression

Job Outsourcing: they won't be able to get a job even if they have a college degree

No Health Care: forget about getting sick. These costs will skyrocket as the HMO corporations make more money and provide less health care

No Kyoto Treaty: they will continue on toward global warming and terrible , destructive weather

And on and on....

13. That means we're doing it right!
When the Repressives holler about our internal leadership choices (Dean) or decry the "scare tactics" around a debate (social security), it's a good indicator that we're on the right track.

Stupidhead is still on his 60 stops in 60 days Bamboozlepalooza tour, but the wheels are wobbling and the momentum is slowing. Look for him to suddenly discover some bigger priority within the next week or two.

17. He seems so DESPERATE to sell this swindle.... Could he be trying to
cover up the fact that he's perhaps (legally, or illegally..I don't know...) already 'appropriated' (looted) some of the funds, and is feverishly working to cover his tracks?

18. Oh I hope so.....
then we'd be right about this criminal administration.

I'm very suspicious of this "hard sell" tactic. If it's so great and all :wtf:
