(UK's) Howard Backs Reduction in Abortion Time Limits
(UK) Conservative leader Michael Howard backs a reduction in abortion time limits in an interview published next week.

Mr Howard risks angering pro-choice groups by saying the current situation is “tantamount to abortion on demand”.

And he pledged to vote to cut the legal deadline for late abortions from the present 24 weeks, for cases of serious handicap or risk to a mother’s life, to 20 weeks.

Pro-life MPs are determined to try to change the law in the next Parliament.

Anne Weyman, chief executive of the Family Planning Association, warned cutting the limit would particularly hit teenager who traditionally come forward later.

3. Babies spend the last three months in the womb growing and making fat.

They are, for the most part, fully developed. 24 weeks = 6 months, about the time they are fully developed. It would be a close call.

4. organs mature and develop during this time inside the womb.
While physically the organs are present, if outside the womb, many require weeks of medical support including life support on a respirator because lungs are not fully developed. That is why we have so many neonatal (premature) units in hospitals.
