SNIP:

SALT LAKE CITY - A fire set to clear brush in a national forest escaped its containment lines and had burned 3,200 acres Wednesday.

Aided by wind gusts of more than 20 mph, the fire moved 70 to 80 feet per minute Tuesday afternoon and forced firefighters on the ground to temporarily retreat. Air drops of retardant continued.

SNIP:

About 80 firefighters were working on the fire Wednesday. The fire in the Uinta National Forest was about 10 miles from the town of Midway, but no homes were threatened.
----

Fire is BAD, it's filled the whole Salt Lake Valley with smoke, to the point where you can't even go outside. Here are some photos from KSL.

1. That sucks, Sean. We get that a lot here in So. Cal. too.
That shot of the SLC valley looks just like LA.

And don't forget, if it "rains ashes," DO NOT WET YOUR CAR WITH WATER TO WASH THEM OFF. Some chemical reaction takes place when the ashes are wet and they become acidic and can ruin your car's paint!!! Dust them off instead.

. . . but I understand that you've got an Energizer Bunny of a drought in progress right now - is it year four or year five?

And, on a total tangent, you live in an amazing state! For the first time since I was a little kid, I went out to Utah (Moab) last month and spent about a week exploring. What a beautiful place!! ;-)

6. Yes, Utah IMO is one of those most beautiful states in the nation.
And yes, we're in year five of our drought.

5. Bottom pic looks oddly normal
Sorry, but when I was in SLC for several days, the pollution was SO bad, it looked like LA. The bottom pic just reminds me of why I don't ever want to live in a "valley" city. Good luck fighting the fire, I hate whenever the FS fires get out of control.
