Show's not so 'purrfect' for female forces in Iraq
Sharon Kibiloski is in Baghdad, and she's fighting mad.
The target of the U.S. Air Force captain's ire is the U.S. Army - and what Kibiloski views as the Army's misguided efforts to raise troop morale by sending a scantily clad female troupe called "The Purrfect Angelz" on a two-week tour of military installations in Kuwait and Iraq.

A lavender flier advertising the troupe's Baghdad show Thursday portrayed a quartet of women wearing faux military uniforms that consisted of headgear, halter tops and hot pants. According to its Web site, the Angelz' act consists of singing, provocative dancing and acrobatics.

"The show only appeals to men, and in my mind has the potential to increase sexual advances toward female soldiers afterward," Kibiloski said in e-mails and reiterated in a telephone interview. "To me, if the military really cared about sexual harassment, they would not sponsor such a show."

Kibiloski, who is serving as a public affairs officer in Baghdad's International Zone, stressed she was speaking not in her official role, but as an outraged woman. She said she contacted The Bee because of the newspaper's series this week on females in today's military, called "Women at War."

1. Would the good Captain expect any thing less from the people who don't
really want her there in the first place?

5. That's one of the symptoms of the problem, not the problem itself
But you're on the right track. The problem is sexism -- no, make that misogynism. And THAT results in them not wanting them there in the first place. Unfortunately, I can't tell whether you side with the good Captain or those who don't want her there.

15. Just for the record. I think the Captain has every right to be there as
anyone else. And since she is there whether I like it or not, she has every right to protest this sort of behavior. The same people who were all over Clinton for getting a blow job and Janet's tit on tv for a split second should be outraged by this, but you know they aren't.

4. Men should be outraged too - not a SINGLE natural breast among those women
No matter about the female soldiers. Everyone knows that women don't enjoy the erotic, anyway -- nor should they be encouraged to.

3. it seems that they sill want to use WWII as a model:
the U.S.O. shows in 'Nam always left me feeling how out of touch the people back home were....they only made it worse..."pin-up" girls were a thing in the 40's but were is that in the '00 with a large female fighting force...Bob Hope is dead.....John Wayne was never in the military...if they want to spend the money on this type of thing they need to understand the "pop" culture of the troops... give them some entertainment they will enjoy....don't make this war into a poor John Wayne movie...it's bad enough as it is....P.S. leave the Chippendale boys at home too!

9. Great summary of the lack of enlightenment on the part of the old Cold War
warriors in charge of our government. I can just imagine how Rummy and the chimp would think this type of sexist behavior is just what the doctor ordered to rally the rambo crowd.

Good Gawd these people are sick!!!

8. So I get a call from my daughter in Afghanistan one time
"MOM, the HOOTERS girls are in my shower" And I said, hooters girls, aren't they waitresses or something? "I guess a couple of them can sing." She said the hooters girls were very nice, and even asked her if she was planning on going to the show. My daughter told me it took everything she had to be polite. She lives in a military compound, so the showers were the most convenient place for the young ladies to shower. She did not attend the show, but she heard a lot of whooping and hollering that night. She was not pleased either. She did go see Robin Williams when he was there, and enjoyed that show very much. Just doesn't have any itch to watch half-naked women gyrate up on a stage. I haven't heard of any offers to have half-naked men gyrate, but women soliers are surrounded by men, so maybe they get a little burned out by what my daughter refers to a "swinging dicks"

14. Oh, yes they're still there
My daughter says the soldiers are feeling a little left out, as far as the media is concerned, something like "hey we're getting shot at too, nobody is talking about that" (her words)

13. Wake up call
The military has NEVER been a place where women will be welcome, Im afraid. As my oldest son told me, the worst thing a drill sergeant can call you is 'woman' or 'gay'.
Misogyny and homophobia are the hallmark of the US military. Guess this kid is just finding it out.

17. Not sure I understand your position on it.
Are you ok with the military not being a place for women or gay people, or are you criticizing the military?
