(NM) Senate Defines Marriage
Bill Saying N.M. Marriage Must Be Between Man and Woman Advances to House

By Kate Nash
Journal Capitol Bureau

SANTA FE— When Sen. William Sharer presented his bill to define marriage as between a man and a woman on the Senate floor Wednesday, he called it "very, very simple."

But that seemed far from the case for many New Mexico lawmakers, who debated the same-sex marriage legislation for 21/2 hours before approving it 25-12.

The four-line bill would codify the idea that marriage in New Mexico is a civil contract between two people of the opposite sex, which supporters say is the ideal type of union for raising children.

"The best situation for children is with a mother and a father who love them," said Sharer, a Farmington Republican who sponsored the Marriage Defined bill (SB 597).

Don't know if the House will go for it or not. Hopefully, this is just a case of 25 idiots.

1. "The best situation for children is with a mother and a father who love
them" -- oh, yeah?

How about, "the best situation for children is with a parent or parents who love them and will protect and provide for them."

Why do people automatically, without thinking, put out that their way is the best way no matter what anyone else says?

2. Will the forces of darkness
allow marriage by a man and a woman if they don't love children? What if a same-sex couple loves children and a mixed-sex marriage hates children? Will marriage be illegal if the marriagees don't/can't have children?

3. The best situation huh?
Well let's see then if "The best situation for children is with a mother and a father who love them" and then after the divorce, the kids are used as bargaining chips when the property is divided. 2/3 of all marriages in the US end in divorce.

Where is that provision?

6. If your premise is correct, Sharer
then shouldn't widow(er)s be forced to remarry as soon as possible? You know, for the kids?

7. Dems must amend it to allow for domestic partnership.
That's the best way to kill these things.

9. Somewhat
He said he wants this but it has to contain an amendment that will make civil unions legal.
