At U.N., Bush Is Criticized Over Iraq
Annan and Others Decry 'Unilateralism'
By Dana Milbank
Washington Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, September 24, 2003; Page A01

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 23 -- President Bush, defending the invasion of Iraq before the United Nations today, endured a torrent of criticism from world leaders who warned that his policy of unilateral action to confront emerging threats to U.S. security could destroy the 58-year-old international organization.

At the annual gathering of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Bush received a polite but cool reception as he blended a gentle defense of his policies in Iraq with a request that "all nations of goodwill" lend help to the effort in Iraq and with a call for the world body to move on to other issues.

1. well, one could consider
that wrecking the u.n. is just another goal of u.s. imperial unilateralism.
the repukes hate the u.n. -- so if they can turn the u.s. foreign policy into an agressive tool of the corporate oligarchy and hamstrting th u.n. at the same time, why all the better.
there is nothing i trust about bushco.

2. John Birch Society
How long has this wing-nut group (a forerunner of the PANC) been arguing that the United States should get out of the UN? Just as with Social Security, conservatives hated the United Nations on the day it was born and would dearly love to kill it off.

Bush's U.N. fiasco

BY FRED KAPLAN, SLATE.COM

Has an American president ever delivered such a bafflingly
impertinent speech before the
General Assembly as the one George W. Bush gave this morning? Here
were the world's foreign
ministers and heads of state, anxiously awaiting some sign of an
American concession to
realism -- even the sketchiest outline of a plan to share not just
the burden but the power of
postwar occupation in Iraq. And Bush gave them nothing, in some ways
less than nothing.

4. He didn't "endure" criticism; the AWOL chimp walked out, as usual
Leave it to our sham media to lie even when they can't help but tell the truth.

5. I noticed that too.......
while the rest of the world leaders waited patiently for the monkey boy to speak, as soon as he finished his entourage vacated the premises. That speaks volumes about his regard for the U.N. and every other country in the world in general. That this arrogant little prick represents us on the world stage drives me to the point of madness.
