Dramatic events in the Philippines Monday, as Fathur Rohman Al-Ghozi, the most senior member of the Jemaah Islamiah terror network escaped from prison, where he was serving a 17-year jail sentence.
The Indonesian-born Al-Ghozi was under special custody in a section within the national police headquarters, in Quezon City, north of Manila. Two Filipino guerillas from the Abu Sayyaf network, also escaped.
Philippines President Arroyo ordered the immediate suspension of all police officers responsible for Al-Ghozi's security, and the laying of criminal and administrative charges against them.
The president, angry at what she considers a major blow to her country's war on terror, cut short a meeting with visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard, to order a massive manhunt for Al-Ghozi.
