Bush* Interview Dead Last in Broadcast TV Ratings
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - On Monday night, the American public was apparently far more interested in new comedies and a blowout football game than their president's take on the state of the international effort to rebuild Iraq.

Data from Nielsen Media Research released Tuesday showed that a one-hour interview with President Bush on Fox came dead last in the hour among the six major broadcast television networks in both total viewers and audiences aged 18 to 49.

The results showed the Bush interview, conducted by Fox News chief correspondent Brit Hume from the Oval Office of the White House, drew an average of about 4.30 million viewers in the hour, with a 1.6 rating and a 5 share in the crucial audience of adults ages 18 to 49.

(snip)

"That is a sorry state of affairs," said Robert Thompson, director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television at Syracuse University. "I think most people, when they heard that the interview was going to happen, just assumed they weren't going to hear anything new that they hadn't already heard."

6. Stunning insight on Thompson's part
Did he go on to explain what surprises and sharp turns we all missed by choosing football, practicing guitar, a good book?

Did Shrump issue a massive mea culpa for Iraq, stealing the election, 9/11, the millions of lost jobs? No? Well, fine then. Remind me to turn him off the next time he comes on, too.

4. yeah, like I really want to watch some barely orgasmic faux whore
toss out pre-scripted softball questions as the chimp for an hour.

I'd rather watch something with more value to it, like Gigli.

13. I bet more like us watched him than his supporters
I actually enjoyed watching him fall on his face, it might have been painful for his supporters. Cognitive dissonance is not fun.

were his bashers. It was a car wreck, Faux tickling Bush with the corniest questions. I tuned in for a few laughs, then put The Family Guy DVD back on.

14. Giants vs Astros
I intended to watch it (ok, I'm a masochist) but the local Fox station was running a Giants game instead, which is somewhat poetic justice.

BTW, I got through about 15 seconds of the Showtime ode before I had to run screaming from the room.

They are no longer paying attention. He is becoming irrelevant. You know, just a fucking whistle ass.

12. But maybe if people really watched him
They would see what a whistle ass he was.

I watched the debates--it was obvious throughout all of them that AWOL was completely out of his league. Looked like he was reading from a random set of cue cards with pat phrases on them. Didn't respond to questions at all. Admittedly, Gore had problems with the "image" thing--tried being polite, tried being aggressive, got attacked both times--but any impartial viewer would have seen the obvious difference in qualifications.

However, few watched. Then the talking heads came on, and told everybody what a fabulous job AWOL did, the headlines picked it up, and people who hadn't seen any of the debates were marveling about how AWOL beat the schoolboy with too much makeup.

18. What goes around comes around
He warned the UN about becoming 'irrelevant' if they didn't kiss his ass. He didn't listen to the masses when we took to the streets and screamed for him to stay out of Iraq. How does it feel to be ignored, Mr. Bush? HAHAHA!

15. W Is a Defective Product!!!!
Nobody wants to watch him drone. This is FANTASTIC news. I was going to post a request for the ratings when I saw this! I KNEW it!! I wrote this a few weeks ago regarding the 87B speech to the country(now w/ minor modifications to include the references to recent events)

Remember when you were a kid and some new toy would come along and the commercials for it were plastered all over the Saturday morning cartoons and before you knew it everyone you knew had one and of course, you had to get one too? It looked so great in the commercial, shiny and fun and promising endless enjoyment. I'm sure it happened numerous times during your childhood. Only, you get the toy and it's not nearly as fun as it looked and it breaks after using it a couple of times. The dissapointment and resentment would well up every time you saw the commercial after that. You knew the truth now and no amount of marketing would ever get you to buy another one of those toys. Maybe they'd sucker you in again for a NEW product, but that toy? History.

Bush is that toy. He was sold to the American people through a marketing and propoganda campaign of epic proportions. 9/11 didn't change Bush, it changed the way the country saw him. The country desperately needed a leader and they projected everything they thought a leader should be into Bush. Unfortunately for Bush and his bosses, they picked a defective product to foist on the American people.

The lustre has worn off and no amount of PR or marketing or propoganda can bring the people back to once again accept what they now know is a defective product. Bush's neocon bosses might have actually been able to pull off their complete seizure of the country if they had picked a different puppet. Someone who had at least a modicum of competence. Bush is not that puppet. He has neither the competence, the charisma, the intelligence or the gravitas. He's defective through and through right down to the very core of his essence and no amount of propoganda or PR will make people believe otherwise now.

The speech last night, the Fox interview, the 87B speech all were hail mary's for the Bush's neocon bosses and they all failed miserably. Everyone's heard it before, it was nothing new, it's was the same old commercial for the same defective toy and people no longer want it and they ain't buying it again.

23. Can't Believe You Made Me Read It
Well, O.K., 1/4th of it. So Brit gets misty about Shrub's contacts with Poppy and Jebbie, eh. Wonder how often Brit had contact with his suicided son. Whups, getting vicious here, O'REILLY's gonna get mad. But first Shrub sez he only has contact with the Poppy people every two weeks, but later it sounds like he calls them every morning.

Yea, since January 2001. Nobody watchs that sorry fuck resident unless they force it down your throat by putting it on every channel. I'll bet that 5 share is inflated. Even at that, it is a piss poor showing for Hume, tho it's probably like that every night.

28. Wow! What a hard-hitting interview!
NOT. I read the transcript (penance). My favorite line from * was:

HUME: When things go badly, as many people would feel they have been in Iraq with the continuing casualties and struggles and difficulties, do you ever doubt?

BUSH: I don't think they're going badly. I mean, obviously I think they're going badly for the soldiers who lost their lives . . .
