Pakistan facing civilian dictatorship like situation: Benazir
Tuesday March 08, 2005

ISLAMABAD, March 09 (Online): PPP-P Chairperson Benazir Bhutto has said that country is facing a civilian dictatorship like situation as the President General Musharraf has grabbed sweeping powers under the garb of his presidency.
She was addressing a gathering of noted academicians, intellectuals and writers in Florida on Tuesday. She held that general Musharraf has reneged on his pledge by retaining dual office. He has also proved that the incumbent government is incompetent to remove the army from political scene of the country and send them to barracks following the general elections 2002.

...

She said that Kashmir dispute and issue of right of self-determination for Kashmiris are thorny questions due to which Pakistan and India had fought three wars. This also led South Asia to the risk of becoming nuclear war field.

She maintained that religious outfits in Pakistan have been making claims of their association with Mullah Omar and Osama bin Laden publicly. The military rulers crushed the democracy and the vacuum created so was filled by religious parties.

Benazir Bhutto warned international community that it supported military regime in Pakistan in war on terror following 9/11 events in US. This support can affect the journey to the destinations of democracy and popular rule, she added. This situation will endanger long term objectives of international community.

She cautioned that military ruler of Pakistan who is key ally to US is sending wrong message to Islamic world comprising one billion population with reference to war on terror. Democracy is more important than fight against terrorism in Pakistan, she added.

Shouldn't Chimp Boy make a phone call to his best friend Dictator Musharraf and demand that he schedule immediate elections if he was serious about this democracy stuff? Don't need any bombing, shooting, or even millions of dollars to stir up opposition needed here. Just one phone call should suffice.
