Pentagon: We are still at war in Iraq
More stupid comments from the spin-wizards.

Pentagon officials have said America is still at war in Iraq after the killing of Italian intelligence agent Nicola Calipari, while freed Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena says the US planned to kill her.

---

An internal Pentagon memo printed in The Washington Times stated: "This is war. About 500 American service members have been killed by hostile fire while operating on Iraqi streets and highways.

---

"It seems to me that the Italian secret service considers this a James Bond movie in Baghdad," Maginnis said.

A US officer said Calipari acted
like a James Bond character
"They're driving around at night picking up a journalist who has been kidnapped and pretending they can get through a phalanx of checkpoints along the deadliest road in all of Iraq without being detected, much less shot up."

1. The sound you hear is the Italians leaving
Such a mature taking of responsibility on our part.

3. When these comments reach...
... the Italian press, you're probably right. If Berlusconi plays the "shit happens in war" routine again, it will be Italian troops leaving Iraq, or Berlusconi leaving the government.

2. We're still at war with Iraq?
Just hold on there! That's not what the Party Directive I received last year said!

I went through all those papers and changed 'Iraq' to 'Iran'. You mean I have to change it back now? Damn, it's never an easy day at the Ministry of Truth...

Death to our Enemies! (whoever they happen to be today...)

4. Little did we know "Mission Accomplished" would mean killing off allies
and their pesky journalists.

6. Are they trying to infuriate the Italians??
Because remarks like "It seems to me that the Italian secret service considers this a James Bond movie in Baghdad," Maginnis said." will certainly do it!

8. God, can you imagine if this statement
is released to the Italian press? It will be like poking a stick inside a hornet nest. You've got some problems.

I'm almost tempted to learn Italian, just so I can read the infuriated articles in the Italian online papers.

They are just -- unbelievable. So out of touch. So -- mental hospital material. Where are the straight jackets?

"It seems to me..."???
I'm sure the Italians will be glad to hear what his f**king opinion is.

9. The Italians have decided to leave Iraq I betcha
Not that fascist Berlusconi. The Italian troops must have decided to hit the road, or this yahoo would not be talking this shit. Expect to start seeing a lot of "news" stories about the Italian "mafia" in the near future. I always did like lemon freedom ice.

Although there is Napoleon's Dictum:

"Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained
by incompetence."

It could be hard to disentangle cause and effect here.

12. So much malice, so much incompetence....
Really hard to tell them apart. Same FUBAR result, though.

13. Hmm.... 500? More like 1,500!!!
Isn't it interesting how they keep counting down the casualties in Iraq?

And the thousands of wounded soldiers are flown back at night to avoid the press.
