U.S. Probe of Iraq Shooting May Take Weeks
WASHINGTON -- The U.S. military's investigation of the deadly shooting of an Italian intelligence officer in Baghdad is likely to be finished in three to four weeks, the top U.S. commander in Iraq said Tuesday.

Army Gen. George Casey also said at the Pentagon that he had no indication that the Italians had told U.S. forces in advance that their convoy was carrying rescued Italian journalist Giuliana Sgrena to the Baghdad airport. Sgrena was wounded when U.S. forces opened fire.

"I personally do not have any indication of that, even on a preliminary basis" Casey told reporters. He stressed that another officer has been appointed to investigate the matter, and that he is not personally familiar with all the relevant details of what may have happened that night.

He declined to say what kind of charges might be brought against any U.S. troops involved.

5. Give me a break
What evidence do you have that this was anything but an unfortunate accident?

7. Even if it was an accident, the circumstances and policy
that are allowing this to happen will be swept under the carpet, no one will be held accountable for anything.

8. "Stupidity is the same as evil if you judge by the results."
Was the "unfortunate accident" the shooting itself or the failure to kill all the vehicle occupants? :eyes:

2. How can it take weeks?
Here is what you do:

Appoint a person with authority to investigate.
He inspect the scene of the incident(One day). Interview the soldiers that shot at the vehicle (1 day), and he gets testimony from the Italians (2 days). Then he writes a report as to what happened (1 day).

I say it could be done in a week.

9. Any clue as to why if 300 to 400 (reported)
shots were fired at the car, only one person was killed and that was from a single shot to the temple?

10. If we ever get to see the car I guess we'll know
My guess is the 300 - 400 rounds is quite the exaggeration. Victims as witnesses aren't the most accurate.
