U.S. acquires land in Kabul
Big News Network.com Monday 28th February, 2005 (UPI)

The United States Sunday acquired new land in Kabul, apparently to expand its diplomatic facilities in the Afghan capital.

A 50-year lease for more than 36,000 square yards of land across the present U.S. Embassy was signed Sunday.

The United States is dedicated to working with the people of Afghanistan as they re-build their nation into a bastion of freedom and democracy, said U.S. Ambassador and Special Presidential Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad at the singing ceremony.

4. We didn't have an embassy before?
Can you explain why this is needed now? Our own infrastructure is in a mess, medicare and SS are in need, so why the expense?

14. Have you read "Rebuilding America's Defenses"?
If you haven't, download the PDF and read through it. It will show you why we are so skeptical.

this link will download a copy if you don't already have it.

Take a good look around... just read three quarters of the titles in Late Breaking News and tell me it's not.

9. Which is the next state?
Puerto Rico, Phillipines, Afghanistan, Iraq, who knows?

But the new caste system burdening the poor and middle class will be forced to pay for it. The upper crust will profit.

11. 36000 sq yards is a square about 190 yards on a side
So, about 3 football fields laid side by side. It seems like a lot of space for an embassy in a desperately poor third world country, but I am no expert.

12. We must have managed nicely before
Now we're just building luxury accomodations for the Bush elitists?

Wonder how much our infrastructure could have been helped. Oh, the working class, under Bush, just pay taxes, it is not theirs to wonder why.

15. They might be building a mini-Guantanamo (prison facilities).
Who knows? Like you say, taxpayers don't seem to have a right to know what is done with their money, in their name anymore.

23. My father has land in Kabul
When my father's family (they were VERY wealthy and pro-monarchy) fled they left all of their land in Afghanistan, and it has been in the hands of local farmers for the past couple decades or so. I hope Bush can finally stabilize Kabul so that I can get the money from the land to pay off my college loans, but with his focus on grander and more idiotic things, that'll never happen.
