38 AGs Send Open Letter to ChoicePoint
Attorneys general in 38 states have joined an open letter to
ChoicePoint Inc., demanding that the data-brokering company do for
their states' residents what they did for Californians -- inform
anybody affected by the security breach that they may be vulnerable to
identity theft.

ChoicePoint said it is mailing notifications to 145,000 consumers in a
number of states, warning them that their data may have been stolen.
The company says it will identify those states within several days.

Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 02:19 AM by cosmicdot
on a daily basis ... then, allowed to sell it ... or put it in the wrong hands as it seems ...

I deem this invasion of our privacy a serious security breach in and of itself.

3. No kidding.
This is unbelievable. They're compiling personal information of all kinds--health care, home insurance score, auto insurance score, employment history, tenant history, ...

And I was foolish enough to believe the U.S. had privacy laws to prevent this kind of crap!

5. Why the HELL will it take "several days" to identify the states?
There is no question in my mind they know which states are involved; it's a matter of covering their behinds for the legal action to follow.

Say,does anyone know who their legal team is, and, if so, is that team connected to bush perhaps?

6. Good for the AGs.
If Choice Point is going to make people the victims of identify theft, they should be required to notify those people. Then, they should be required to remedy the harm.
