Poll finds disapproval of Bush (in CA)
Poll finds disapproval of Bush

By John Marelius
STAFF WRITER

February 18, 2005

The majority of Californians disapprove of the job President Bush is doing and more than two in three now believe the war in Iraq is not worth the cost, a new Field Poll shows.

Bush, who lost California to Democrat John Kerry by 10 percentage points in the November election, has been negatively regarded by a solid majority of Californians for the past year.

In a statewide telephone survey of 503 adult Californians conducted Feb. 8 through Sunday by the nonpartisan Field Poll, 54 percent said they disapproved of the job the president is doing, compared to 41 percent who approved. The poll has a margin of error of 4.5 percentage points.

Support for the war in Iraq among Californians has eroded precipitously since the March 2003 invasion.

In April of that year, 58 percent said they believed the war was worth the toll in American lives and other costs. Now, 68 percent say it is not.

Schwarzenegger should be tied to Bush at all times...
That musclehead should be neutered before he goes any further.

12. Why Not?
They both seem to be attempting to set World Records for borrowing money in their respective categories.

15. Great state
Years ago I read a so-so science fiction book that took place in California sometime in the 22nd century. Part of the premis was that at some point Californian's became so fed up with the rest of the US and figured out a way to form their own country.

10. But sometimes subject to lapses.
Edited on Fri Feb-18-05 05:19 PM by TahitiNut
For example, Proposition 15 and its application to leased commercial property, and the selection of Arnold who immediately let Enron off the hook. A state that can elect Pete Wilson has some serious blind spots. That said, I miss living in the San Francisco Bay area more than I've ever missed anything in my life. I think of it as 'home.' I'll always be a Californian at heart.

11. I hear you
It's only too bad the news stations didn't tell the honest truth about new york's projections until after the election. I'm sure many more would reconsider if they knew we did not feel bush was the 'hero' of 9/11, and not just half way but something like 80%.

The irony is my step father was voting for kerry and they wouldn't count his registration and forced him to take a provisional ballot. I wonder how many more would have raised that number without all of this blocked voting garbage?

5. Odd. After the CA SoS was forced out, I figured we'd see the opposite.
In print, at least, to soften us up for the eventual Republican "win" thanks to Diebold.

after NCLB and state education budget cuts take their toll, expect future Californians to be less astute (hence more likely to vote 'puke).

16. Yikes!!! - Translation - "Selfish, Greedy and Proud"
I saw a license plate frame on a woman's car in Ventura that said "I love my Bush" She saw my "Wars, Lies, Corporate Ties" sticker and gave me the "W" handsign...

Outside of the Metropolitan areas in Ca. it can be pretty darn red. However I will always love California, and I'm proud to call it home.

:puke:Sorry, that image just made me hurl, again!

Maybe she's married to a corporate bigwig and he's pilfering big $$$$$$ (of course it's all practically legal now, you know) and they've got a giant stash in an offshore bank(s) account(s) somewhere.

That's the only way Bush baits his followers (along with Christian fundamentalism) is by $$$$$$$$$$ and the corporate way. Greed and big money is most likely the only reason she hails (or Heils?) Bush.

I wonder if people like her will ever feel the pinch?

- But I know how you feel. My wife has to constantly restrain me - verbally. However, I am looking for a new sticker for my car, and someone here posted a pic of one that I liked, it said:

"Hemp is a Weed, Bush is a Dope"

Haha! I loved it, if anyone knows where I could find one, I would appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!:D Thanks!

25. Most important sentence in the story...
"In April of that year, 58 percent said they believed the war was worth the toll in American lives and other costs. Now, 68 percent say it is not."

I'm working on a LTTE addressing those folks who supported the war back then but now say it isn't worth the costs.

The gist of it is:
"Too bad you weren't with us when we marched and protested and said the war would be a costly disaster. Maybe those 1500 Americans and 100,000 Iraqis would be alive today if you had used your fucking head rather than listen to the pack of liars in DC.

I told everybody... with a big sign... that this thing is 'Not In My Name'. The blood is on your hands as much as on Bush's"

28. Wish you all could beat California
Edited on Sat Feb-19-05 01:06 AM by Barkley

I think a lot of it has to do with economics:
I think a lot of people expected gas prices to
fall after Iraq but gas prices in the State are up.
About 20% of California's oil comes from Iraq.

Iraqis pay 5 cents per gallon because of U.S.
subsidies.

People also see cost of their education, healthcare
going up or being eliminated all together because of
the state's deficit. Bush did nothing for CA, and
he spent over $100 billion in Iraq and wants $80
billion more.

But there's not help for us.

California has also lost a disproportionate number
of troops in Iraq.

Finally, there are lot of grass-roots organizations
here doing great work at organizing and informing people.

I love my Blue State!
