4. That is certainly not what was meant by the punctuation.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 08:49 PM by leftchick
I was shocked to see we are approaching 1500 dead soldiers so damn quickly. I have relatives and aquaintances in Iraq. Many here on DU do. I am insulted you would insinuate such a horrible thought. An appology would be appreciated.

5. Playing devils advocate:
Many RWers assume that we take joy and dance naked in the moonlight everytime a soldier dies or something bad happens that just reinforces this administrations stupidity. I'm sure this was just miscommunication, and I personally don't believe that you were excited. We would all do well, though, individually, to examine our speech, so as not to provide more fodder for the "enemy." Just a thought.

11. "to examine our speech" for what? the sake of some stupid freep?
Examine your own speech if you want. Your suggestion has no merit. They aren't the enemy, they are nothing but a bunch of lonely hateful misanthropes. Who the fuck cares what they think.

8. What is it with you people attacking long time DUers?
She diligently reports on the deaths of our soldiers that many of us only find out about because the main media refuses to report these numbers.

If you knew something about DU and the people who have been posting here a long time, you'd know that. Who are you to ask her to apologize for using an EXCLAMATION mark? I knew her intent and don't give a rat's ass if Drudge doesn't get it.

31. When have you ever seen someone post the death of a soldier with GLEE?
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 09:30 PM by Ripley
I have never, not once in 3 years seen someone (especially not leftchick) post a casualty update with "an exclamation of joy."

I haven't seen or heard the numbers in awhile, so I, too was shocked it is almost 1500...and clearly that is the point she was making. How can the news cover Michael Jackson's flu and trial wall to wall 24/7 and never inform Americans how many soldier die each day?

If any freeper were to take her post out of context based on one exclamation point, it wouldn't be the first or last time.

You were rude and it is uncalled for in the case of a great DUer.

On Edit: Doh! I'm talking to a tombstone again.

32.  LEFTCHICK
The notion that she was gleeful at the death of American soldiers is absurd. She's been posting these updates to show what we are losing in a country where few seem to care what happens to these brave men and women. She also finds news on the war in places MSM won't go and I thank her for that.

I am done posting these death notices. Who would have thought my exclamation point, due to the sudden rise in soldier deaths, could be so misconstrued?

36. You are missing the point
Edited on Thu Feb-17-05 08:19 AM by TrueAmerican
We all know the death of the soldiers (or anyone for that matter) is sad and unneccessary. An Excalmation Point is not needed. Nobody that post here regualarly thinks you were being "happy" about it. We are just all tired of "freepers" "right wing talk show host" poining to a post on DU and misreport our intentions.

The number posted by itself tells the story more than adequately. I know you are not happy with the deaths, but we are fighting a message war and the "exclamation point" plays into their hands.

Why give them the ammo?

37. I can't believe people are crying about an exclamation point...
that has got to be the most trivial thing I have seen in some time. An exclamation indicates something that is intended to show an excited state, that does not mean a happy state of emotion or pleasure, it simply means heightened emotion. If 50 soldiers were to die in one day, and trust me, I do NOT want that to happen. I would certainly fucking post that with an exclamation point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
