AP: Defense Secretary Sees Possibility of Another Terror Attack
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 11:43 AM by Norquist Nemesis
WASHINGTON (AP - Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld warned on Wednesday that terrorists are regrouping for another strike, but the United States is preparing to deal with any threat.
"The extremists continue to plot to attack again. They are at this moment recalibrating and reorganizing. And so are we," the Pentagon chief told members of the House Armed Services Committee in prepared testimony.

He did not provide any specifics on a potential threat or another attack.

Offering his argument for President Bush's request for $419 billion in defense spending for fiscal 2006, Rumsfeld said the plan sets an ambitious course to "continue prosecuting the war and to attack its ideological underpinnings."

2. Of course, the chimps numbers are taking a dive
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 11:17 AM by sybylla
I was telling my hubby yesterday when he mentioned it that if the chimp's numbers go down any more there will be another LIHOP/MIHOP terrorist incident on our soil. It's part of the Hitler/Goering/Kissinger playbook.

edited to include the following quotes:
“I shall give a propaganda reason for starting the war. Never mind whether it is plausible or not. The victor will not be asked afterward whether he told the truth or not. In starting and waging war it is not right that matters, but victory.”
--Adolf Hitler, Chapter 6, Mein Kampf

"Why, of course, the people don't want war….That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship...the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country."
--Hermann Goering, Nazi Reichsmarshal and Luftwaffe chief

"Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful. This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond, whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will plead with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government."
-- Henry Kissinger speaking at Evian, France, May 21, 1992 Bilderburgers meeting. Unbeknownst to Kissinger, his speech was taped by a Swiss delegate to the meeting.

"The illegal we do immediately. The unconstitutional takes a little longer."
--Henry Kissinger

Good God these guys don't even attempt to avoid transparency.

The scary part is there will have to be another one to get people afraid again, even the people who believe this shit are tired of the warnings. God, I wish we had a real government.

21. Rumsfeld repeats on Wednesday what the U.N said Tuesday.
Edited on Wed Feb-16-05 12:37 PM by Career Prole
Rumsfeld said the plan sets an ambitious course to "continue prosecuting the war and to attack its ideological underpinnings."

Yeah Rummy...you and your f**king plans...

Let's see what that U.N. team said yesterday about your war on terror's success so far.

"The biggest fear we all have is terrorists getting hold of the means to cause a mass attack," said Richard Barrett, the team's coordinator. "Al-Qaida is a phenomenon that observes no borders. It is even harder to track now than it was a year or two ago when it had a more coherent structure and leadership."

<snip>

Barrett said he did not know where bin Laden was. But despite the lack of knowledge about the al-Qaida leader's whereabouts, the group he led continues to thrive.

"The team sees no let-up in the determination of al-Qaida, the Taliban and their associates to continue their campaign of terror," the report said, warning of "a further escalation in terms of brutality of attacks."

"Building on the appeal of its message, al-Qaida is actively seeking new areas in which to expand, both to recruit and to base itself. It aims to radicalize Muslim communities through propaganda and to create and exploit a sense of injustice whether political, social or economic," it added.

Barrett also said the terror group was using the conflict in Iraq to boost its standing. "There is no doubt al-Qaida is using the situation in Iraq to promote themselves and recruit people," he said.

Now if the U.N. had said "Syria" was planning attacks instead of "al-Qaida" in that report you'd have been on it like stink on $hit, wouln't you have, Rummy? Of course you would have.

Edited because my comment was inside the quote block. :eyes:

32. I agree with you, and the only time I've heard of it outside of print
is on NPR.

Maybe the cable news will pick up on it when the full Security Council gets their hands on it...

"The semiannual report, which will be considered by the full Security Council at a later stage, painted a grim picture of a terror group determined to spread its influence, constantly evolving to evade detection."

...but then again maybe not, since it's particularly bad news for Chimpco and his terra agenda.

40. Yes. I told my husband that I was deathly afraid of another
"terrorist attack" before the Patriot Act expires in December (and I believe--but am not certain--that some of the provisions will not expire even then).

If something does happen, I for one will think it highly coincidental... and I often question the concept of coincidence.

This is indeed a very frightening time.

42. Terrorists 'recalibrating,' Rumsfeld says
Tail wags dog again! Gannongate heats up!!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6980108/

WASHINGTON - The heads of the Pentagon, CIA and FBI on Wednesday warned lawmakers that they fear terrorists groups, particularly al-Qaida, are still actively looking for ways to carry out a strike in the United States.

“The extremists continue to plot to attack again. They are at this moment recalibrating and reorganizing. And so are we,” Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld told the House Armed Services Committee.

Offering his argument for President Bush’s request for $419 billion in defense spending for fiscal 2006, Rumsfeld said the plan sets an ambitious course to “continue prosecuting the war and to attack its ideological underpinnings.”

In separate testimony, CIA Director Porter Goss said al-Qaida is intent on finding ways to circumvent U.S. security enhancements to attack the homeland.

50. I'm Confused! I still don't understand why there has not been..
a greater commitment to "HOMELAND SECURITY"????

We have all these miles of borders, all of the "ports of entry", all the avenues to ALLOW for the wreaking of havoc.

Where's the money?

There has not been any legitimate concern for protecting this country from any perceived assailants from beyond. I, as a postal employee, still have yet to wonder why the "ANTHRAX" investigation/inquiry has not been resolved for the much publicized anxiety that workers in the US Postal Service, the "selected" addressees, and the American people endured well over three years ago.

I remember when I used to "hang out" in bars and played pool. A friend of mine said, "Chalk is cheap, talk is talk, walk is walk, and, if y'a can't walk the talk, you talk; then the chalk you talk, is not the walk; and, that's CHEAP".

In discussions with friends over here in Oz, we've often debated, had we been Bin Laden would we have inserted a Plan B and even C at the same time as Plan A. Bin Laden would have been well aware that Plan A would have met with a massive response from America, leading to extreme difficulties and hardships for his organization. So why not insert your response or responses to this while America's guard was down pre 9/11. Bin Laden's organization is famous for its patience. Have the Ruskies found their missing "suitcase" bombs yet?
