House Poised to OK Indecency Fine Increase
WASHINGTON - House members are looking to hit broadcasters where it hurts — in the pocketbook — to crack down on racy programming.

A bill with strong bipartisan support that would boost the maximum fine for indecency from $32,500 to $500,000 passed the House Commerce Committee 46-2 last week. The full House planned to consider it Wednesday.

Rep. Fred Upton (news, bio, voting record), R-Mich., who chairs the committee's telecommunications panel and introduced the bill, said he expects it to pass with ease.

2. Unbelievable.
These idiots in congress want to allow a couple of hundred fundis to determine what the other 290 million of us see and hear.

Are these people to stupid to understand the concept of an 'off' switch?

4. I think it's called "revenue enhancement" - they really have to
work at making up for all those corporate/rich folks' tax cuts!

5. Nice priorities...
I guess there's nothing else more important going on that the Congress ought to be paying attention to...
