Billboard Delivers Right Jab To Hollywood
Billboard Raises Eyebrows On Hollywood Boulevard

POSTED: 3:17 pm EST February 10, 2005
UPDATED: 4:42 pm EST February 10, 2005

LOS ANGELES -- A conservative group is giving thanks where thanks is not wanted.

Citizens United posted a billboard thanking Hollywood stars for contributing to the re-election of President George W. Bush.

The billboard includes the text "4 More Years ... Thank You Hollywood!" It features pictures of Michael Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Ben Affleck, Chevy Chase, Martin Sheen, Barbra Streisand and Sean Penn.

"Using a billboard, thanking Hollywood for helping re-elect George Bush is somewhat in fun, but also delivers a serious message," said Dave Bossie, president of Citizens United. "That is, every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

Citizens United is the same group that mounted a counterattack against Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" called "Celsius: 41.11."

Yes, I'm sure Michael Moore, Chevy Chase and Barbara Streisand are going to just have a miserable four years as people in their income brackets continue to reap huge tax cuts from this Administration.

Yeah! They sure showed them! The common man got even with those Hollywood types by electing a real Man of the People like Bush.

9. Typical Divide and Conquer strategy
This conservative group is trying to make us think our heros caused the bush win. This is a lie....as if they want to 'help' us find more appropiate leaders. Divide and conquer.

In fact, Michael Moore has achieved rock star status for me. Prior to seeing 9/11, I was not that much involved in politics. Michael Moore changed that. Thank you MM!!

A desperate attempt to get Democrats to eat their young (or each other) rather than build the machine we are diligently and continuously building - so we can cream the Republicans in 4 years.

Nice try!! Why don't you try those outdoor loud-speakers!! I hear they work great!!

21. Truth about Bush voters..
if they were not motivated by greed, they were motivated by some lofty ideal of morality that Bush and Rove concocted over drinks. Many religious people flocked to Bush because they believed that Bush actually reads the bible.. rather than plays video games all day and works out and naps. My born-again relatives visited recently, and they LOVE George Bush. They think his only problem is that he's not a good speaker like Clinton. They believe that Bush lives his live according to their values. They are all an incurious bunch.. never asking themselves if children living and dying in poverty is moral. If killing hundreds of thousands of innocents abroad is moral. If cheating the schools and health care facilities in our country is moral.. all in the name of billion dollar giveaways to Bushs "haves and have-mores".. his base. Rove was brilliant in propping that ne-er do well up as some freakin' religious leader, when he is himself totally incurious, and uninterested in the plight of those not filthy rich, crass, and lazy, as himself.

We did everything we could, in light of the unprecedented assualt on our media, by the very fucks that reap the billions from Bush's policies. The idiots that put him in office will be sorely disappointed when they see how trashed our beautiful country will become under Bush's lame duck, corporate giveway, military complex, once known as our America. I'd like to say these morans deserve what they voted for.. but WHAT about the rest of us?

36. Well said!
Large corporations are in charge of the US. The war is just a scam to 'increase shareholder value' over at Halliburton. If they are willing to sacrifice thousands of young American soldiers (and 100's of billions) just to satisfy some corporate donors....is anybody safe under the GOP?

...the other Merry Fraudsters.

If these Repukes had had a brain cell between the lot of them, they'd realize that F/911 hurt Bush tremendously, and without a "little help from his friends" he'd be back in Crawford right now.

Don't thank Hollywood, give credit where credit is due - thank the liars and cheaters that actually re-selected the boy chimp, especially Wally O'Dell, owner of Diebold who promised to "deliver Ohio to George W. Bush" - and kept his promise.

The Repukes have no class, It will only inspire those who despise B*sh and it will show what sore winners the Repukes are. They have the President, they have the House, they have the Senate, they have the Judiciary, they have the media, what more can they want? Why are they so offended by people who do not agree with them? Different opinions are allowed in this country and they seem to resent it.

How long do you think it will take for someone to paint a Hitler mustache on the B*sh?

I don't get why Republicans always blame Hollywood...as if Hollywood has the most leftist people in the country. That's a joke to real leftists...Hollywood tends to have liberal people because of its association with the Arts world...but let's remember that these people get paid MILLIONS to do their work...and what about Chuck Norris and Bruce Willis? They are not Hollywood?

I think the whole labeling of Hollywood is wrong...

stupid bastids.

You know, this reminds me of what Molly Ivins said about satire. She said that satire, used by the powerless against the powerful, can be world-changing. Satire used by the powerful against the powerless is just profoundly vulgar.

What action or outcome, precisely, do they intend for this billboard to bring about? Why would anyone pay for it, just to be snarky? What exactly is the point? Clearly their supporters will go, YEAH, cool - and then what? Everyone else will roll their eyes, think, what an eyesore, and drive on by. So what, precisely, have they brought about with this piece of propaganda?

...meaning now we know who They most fear: celebrities not completely subverted by the love of money. Sure, the Republicans would like you to see these celebs as figures of fun, but the fact that They are parting with cash to jeer them utterly belies that notion.

If it goes on a Republican billboard, it's a lie.
