Judge delays ruling in (baby's) life support case
http://www.mysanantonio.com/sharedcontent/APStories/stories/D885AHM04.html

An infant with a lethal genetic disorder will remain on life support for at least one more week after a judge agreed Wednesday to hear more arguments from the attorney for the child's mother

Wanda Hudson's 4-month-old son, Sun Hudson, has been on a mechanical ventilator since his birth because he cannot breathe on his own.
Texas Children's Hospital officials say no treatment can save him and want to remove him from life support

Sun's mother disputes the hospital's position and has been fighting to keep him on life support. Sun suffers from thanatophoric dysplasia, a condition characterized by extremely short limbs, a narrow chest, small ribs and underdeveloped lungs.

Wednesday's hearing was meant to give Caballero the opportunity to prove there is a reasonable probability that another hospital would take over Sun's care. A hospital must continue care if there is a reasonable probability that another hospital will admit the patient.
Caballero said he had yet to find another hospital, but said he was still trying.

1. This kind of thing is so sad
and there's simply no good outcome.

I see this as a case in which the mother (probably because of a combination of religious belief and the poor state of U.S. science knowledge/education overall for most people) does not understand the medical realities here. She may well honestly buy into the idea that a miracle can happen, especially if she beliefs or prays hard enough.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to have a child severely handicapped like this, and I know I cannot imagine the grief she must feel. No matter what, she does not have the healthy baby she thought she was going to have.
