Minn. Dems Won't Name Building for Reagan
ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Around Minnesota's Capitol, the State Office Building is commonly called the S.O.B. But that doesn't make Democrats any more open to putting Ronald Reagan's name on it.

State senators rejected a bill Wednesday that would have named the building after the former president -- who lost Minnesota both times he ran for the presidency.

The bill was voted down in committee.

"I think if we're going to be naming state office buildings, we should be naming them after Minnesotans," said Sen. David Tomassoni, a Democrat. "And if we're going to name them after presidents, we should at least name them after presidents who this state voted for."

2. but Sen. Michelle Bachman, R-Stillwater...
...has introduced or will introduce a bill to name the I-694/494 freeway the 'Ronald Reagan Memorial Beltway.'
fuggin' loons.
I believe he's only set foot in this state twice, and once was after he left office for medical care at the Mayo Clinic......

19. If that happens
I will never drive on that highway again. It's only a few miles from my house. It'll never pass

3. how about renaming the Anoka Sanitary Landfill
or the "Minnesota Sexual Psychopathic Personality
Treatment Center" for Ronnie.

Seriously, if a bunch of GOPclowns think that there should be something named for RR in every county in the country, I think there are some predominantly Democratic locales that could come up with some interesting options....

5. Wendy Wilde had the 'Ronald Reagan Memorial News Break' on her
show this morning - pretty funny. (It was the usual news break but they renamed it to mock the bill) She's one of the AAR Mn radio hosts, on from 9-11am.

Wendy also played 'the Michele Bachman Morality Minute' in which 'Bachman,' Minnesota's self-appointed State Commissioner of Morality, said raising the minimum wage was a threat to marriage, since common poverty draws people together and they have to huddle together in bed to stay warm when the power company shuts their power off ...and if you raise their pay they'll be able to heat their bedroom and will grow apart ... poor people were not meant to have money, if they were, they would have it! They were not destined to have that level of responsibility...

All in all, pretty funny stuff - it was a guy trying to sound like a woman reading the script.

Here - I see Wendy has a link to the Morality Minute on her webpage

here's the Morality Minute link:

6. The goal of naming a public building or highway
in every county of the country is one of the Republican's interesting, long-term goals of elevating Reagan into the pantheon of "great Americans." By implication, his rabid, right-wing policies get a big thumbs-up as well.

Good to see this one deep-sixed.

9. The one that ticked me off most was Washington National Airport,
which of course was renamed "Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport."

I recall someone saying, "It's ALREADY named after a president - President George Washington!"

8. The "cult of Reagan" strikes again
I don't see Democrats lobbying to have places named after Jimmy Carter or Clinton. Republicans always act as if Reagan forever changed the country, while ignoring that many of our current problems (Osama and Hussein) were the result of his Presidency.

If they want to name places after him in Cal. or Ill., fine, but Minnesota? Puh-lease

14. Wellstone would be a great pick
Or fellow Minnesotans (and Vice Presidents) Hubert Humphrey or Walter Mondale.

Or, if they have to name it after a Republican, why not Harold Stassen?

I will not accept them at the post office, and won't use a stamp machine in case the machine spits them at me.
