Some cops concerned over proposed budget cuts
Central Texas cops could find themselves on the short end if part of President Bush's budget proposal is approved by Congress. The budget calls for a $470 million cut in the C.O.P.S. program and local departments are concerned.

The C.O.P.S. program stands for Community Oriented Policing Services. While that may not mean much to most people, it's a vitally important program to police departments across the country and here in Central Texas.

Waco Police Chief Alberto Melis says, "The C.O.P.S. program has a multitude of things that help us with money from the federal government."

Money used for things like bullet-proof vests and hiring additional officers. <snip>

2. Gotta have those tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.
Edited on Wed Feb-09-05 11:17 PM by w4rma
That's the GOP priority. Their whole party revolves around methods of transfering our money to the bank accounts of the ultra-wealthy.

11. I know we need law and order................BUT
somehow I'm not feeling very sorry for the PO--leece Bah!

The long arm of the law carries out the Patriot Act's dirty deeds; jacking up people for just being homeless and poor. Watching people who are acting "suspicious"...um, like protesters maybe?

And where are the police in my poor neighborhood when I need them? At the doughnut shop maybe? Or do they just not care what happens to folks not living in the "proper" zip code area. :nopity:

16. Most the ones around here did.
I'm SURE there's a "Liberal Cop" out there someplace, but I think there's a greater possibility of me running over a Snipe with my bike than seeing a Liberal cop.

14. We have way too many police in this police state.
We have ten times as many police per-capita as Canada. We have about eight times as many people, per capita, in prison than any other country on earth.

"They hate us for our freedoms!" is the most preposterous lie Bush has ever told the world.

If a country has ten time the cops, and eight times the number of prisoners, where are the "Freedoms?" The actual statistics show that America is the least free country on earth.
