(DC/MD/VA) Regional Leaders Want Bush To Cover Inaugural Costs

Washington (AP) - Polite but firm could best describe a letter being sent by regional officials to the White House. It asks President Bush (website - news - bio) to please pay for his own inauguration.

At Wednesday's Council of Governments meeting, officials from D.C. and the suburbs unanimously approved a letter to Bush and the Department of Homeland Security. It asks them to find other funds to cover inaugural security costs.

Local governments pitched in police, firefighters and sheriff's officers at a cost of about $12 million. Federal officials told them to use homeland security grants to cover the bill. <snip>

Good. Make sure the mean-spiritedness of the Rove White House doesn't get put to bed after 1 week of news. These people in some of the poorest cities in the East have to pay the bill. Put it out there in the press until the White House eats its own tongue (or some billionaire steps in to pay the bill). Make it not worth their while to intimidate voters by throwing a $12 Million dollar bill at them just because they didn't vote Republican.
