Support waning for insurgents in Iraq
Attitudes seen shifting since election
By Doug Struck
Updated: 12:08 a.m. ET Feb. 7, 2005

BAGHDAD, Feb. 6 - With a hero who gave his life for the elections, a revived national anthem blaring from car stereos and a greater willingness to help police, the public mood appears to be moving more clearly against the insurgency in Iraq, political and security officials say.

1. Oh good, then that means we can leave now
When can we expect the troops to come home?

These neocons can't have it both ways: telling us the situation in Iraq is going swimmingly and yet insist on an occupation of at least 130,000 troops with no timetable for pulling out.

2. Sure it is.
The LA Times today ran obits for 34 soldiers killed this week.

A "catastrophic" success.

3. Too bad it looks certain that people with close ties...
to Iran have been elected as the majority of the new government. I heard that on the Mike Malloy show the other day. It's not like we haven't created monster regimes there before!

4. What a happy, happy report.
This time things are really going great. It's like a whole other country, full of happy, optimistic people. As others have pointed out, the mission is really accomplished according to this report, so everybody can return to their respective homes now.

5. Hmm...I actually wish this was true.
But I think that it's a lot of wishful thinking. The insurgency is taking place mostly in Sunni areas where the people didn't really vote. I don't see much changing there. I think that this insurgency will continue for as long as we're there.

6. The insurgents won't give up if we leave
The Sunnis hate the Shia as much or more then they hate us. They are not going to settle for being dominated by the Shia.

8. KOOL-AID WARNING!!!
This is definitely a lop-sided story. Any media with reporters in the White House who want any official access must demonstrate their willingness to balance their coverage with official White House policy and perspective.

The current message is: Forget about Iraq - look at Iran while we let Israel take Palestine.

10. I bet the writer of this article has been in Baghdad lately ....
walking the streets and getting a feel for the attitude of the man on the street.

Maybe not.

Oh I see Doug Struck relied on reports from "political and security officials." Well who can possibly doubt what our hired Iraqi political and security officials say? I mean they have been so straight up with us so far. Especially that Chalabi guy.

This article is a joke, and is yet another example of blatant political propaganda passed off as "news."

11. I am very skeptical about this report until further info comes
Don't forget the Iraqi govt has been putting out bogus and optimistic report for ages. It may be true, but when you're occupied, you are occupied...

13. That would imply that the insurgents had support in the first place,
something the administration and the MSM have not been willing to admit up until now.

They can't have it both ways.

15. More Washington Post lies about the war
The same media whores who supported this mess to begin with are still trying to paper it over. Putting lipstick on an ass.
