Cheney Won't Run for President, Not Even if Begged
I don't think any of us thought he would run, but this article has some classic Cheney material in it

Cheney Won't Run for President, Not Even if Begged
Sun Feb 6, 2005 12:51 PM ET

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday categorically ruled out a run for the White House in 2008, even if asked by the Republican president who recruited him back into government.

"I will say just as hard as I possibly know how to say ... 'If nominated, I will not run,' 'If elected, I will not serve,' or not only no, but 'Hell no,"' Cheney told "Fox News Sunday," making clear he intends to retire from politics at the end of his current term.

"... I've got my plans laid out. I'm going to serve this president for the next four years, and then I'm out of here."

4. Since he's quoting Sherman, here's a quote he missed.
"It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, more vengeance, more desolation. War is hell."

11. Actually it is within the realms of the law to SERVE three terms.
Edited on Sun Feb-06-05 02:55 PM by Stand and Fight
There is no term limitation on how long one may SERVE as vice-president. Rather, the Constitution is sketchy on this matter to say the very least. Lyndon B. Johnson could have served three terms as president since he had served less than two years after JFK's assassination. That being said, the limitation is actually on how many times one may be ELECTED to the office of president, and it is unclear if this refers to the vice-presidency as well. The 22nd and 12th Amendments do not clearly distinguish how long one can hold the office -- save limiting an individual to only 10 years as president. The amendments only contradict eacy other as to whether or a president is later able to serve as vice-president and vice-versa. (No pun intended! J/K) This has yet to be decided as it is without precedence...

7. He has no reason to run
He already has maximum power in his role as Senate president, the de facto CEO of Halliburton, and a compliant Congress.

He does not "serve this president," he serves this damned country.

16. well, actually...
the chain of command in that job is clear. It's the President who must serve the country. Everyone else in his or her Administration definitely works for dah man.

18. No.
The vice-president is ELECTED by a slate of electors just like the president. The electors are in turn chosen by the people. Therefore, the vice-president SERVES the PEOPLE, not the president. The other members of his cabinet could be said to fall under your argument, but you are wrong in regards to the vice-president.

23. Because they're more efficient at
stealing, cheating and do not have any principle whatsoever.
Note, by the way, that they do not have to be intelligent to serve their purpose, while democrats do. Not stealing, not cheating and having principles is cognitively challenging. Pretending to is not.

30. I would beg!
He's unelectable. That's why he has to be the shadow President to Shrub. He's gruff, ugly, has a terrible personality and is to the right of Attilla the Hun.

I'd love him to run in 2008. What I fear is that they put up sometime like the Chimp who can act and do the things necessary to con just enough people to win.
