U.S. troop deaths hit 100 for month
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/I/IRAQ_US_LOSSES?SITE=TXSAE&SECTION=MIDEAST&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

WASHINGTON (AP) -- January was the third month since the U.S. invasion of Iraq that U.S. troop deaths reached or exceeded 100, and it was one of the deadliest months for the National Guard and Reserve.

The Pentagon also said Tuesday, in its weekly update on the number wounded in action in Iraq, that the total now stands at 10,770, up 152 from a week earlier and up about 500 over the last four weeks.

The only months deadlier than January for U.S. troops in Iraq were last November, when 138 died, and last April, with 135.

January's total included at least 28 members of the National Guard and Reserve, including 11 from the Louisiana Army National Guard. The total of 28 is the highest for any month, matching the 28 lost in November 2004. The Marine Corps Reserve also had a bad month, with seven killed in January.

1. You mean "officially" .....
I've seen quite a bit of info that shows
the death toll so far for US troops closer to 6,000.
I'll see if I can dig up some links. There's a reason
they don't want reporters counting the number of
pine boxes coming back from Iraq ...

8. Oh my god, you're serious?
If this is true, this is absolute dynamite. I've always wondered about the casualties in Iraq.

I've read that if a troop is wounded in Iraq, is flown to Germany for medical care and dies there, his/her death is not counted. It's only if they die in Iraq that they are counted as casualties.

I've also been really suspicious about the numbers for a long time. And really - how could we know. We don't know every single family which has military in the armed forces. So if one gets killed, how could we possibly keep track?

THIS is a subject worth investigating.

Thanks for staying on top of it, Mile.

2. Picking up the pace?
Meanwhile, the Marines failed to meet their enlistment quota for the month.

5. Even Nazi Germany counted the Jews.
In that sense, at least, we're not even as conscientious as Nazi Germany. It's beyond disgusting. :puke:

12. And the number dead on their Election Day.....
didn't even phase a fundie co worker of mine...all she kept going on about last night was how many millions of Iraqis voted. I work in a nursery that provides parents with a newspaper from the day of their kid's birth...so I mentioned to her the "35 dead:Iraq's Election Day" headline..didn't mean a thing to her.. she said something along the lines of "well, really, that's not too bad considering how many risked their lives to go and vote".
Couldn't help but think of all the horrible newspaper/headlines the babies in our nursery have been given <and will be given> under the shrub regime.

Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 07:46 PM by tabasco
be the policeman of the world. OH HOW THEY CRIED when Clinton authorized any military action!

The same people cried CORRUPTION when the Clinton's lost money on a real estate deal ten years old. NOW those people write off NINE BILLION LOST DOLLARS as a business expense.

People that support Bush win the trifecta for being the biggest: HYPOCRITES; IDIOTS; and TRAITORS !

9. Another thought, someone should
do a Graph in Excel and chart the numbers of deaths by month. Start with April 2003 and see what's happened to the numbers of casualties.

I think the numbers have gone up.

In contrast to Big Mouth's claims of "Freedom on the March".

13. And here in Michigan.....
our flags will be flying at half-staff AGAIN (tomorrow) for another dead soldier from the state. But no one even cares. I mean that. No one I work with even talks about it. They even have the nerve to come in and say, "Why is the flag at half staff?" I'm telling you - our society is immune to death when it doesn't touch them personally.

And, of course, Bush says "it was worth it."
