'Concern' over club drug results
'Concern' over club drug results

Clubbers who tested positive for drugs at a Kent nightclub had traces
of heroin and cocaine, but none of the more commonly used cannabis.

It was the second-part of the operation which saw children attending
an under 18s party at the club tested on 22 January.

On that occasion, of the 436 youngsters tested, six were found to have
traces of Class A and Class B drugs and no cannabis was found.

Speaking about both operations, Pc Janine Matthews-Cusden said: "It is
very concerning we only detected Class A and B drugs.

4. Not proven at all..
I challenge you to come up with scientific proof, in the form of clinical studies, showing statistically-valid results along the lines that marijuana smoking increases one's likelihood of contracting lung cancer, when used alone, or with tobacco (other than the baseline increase known to be caused from tobacco).

As a matter of fact, counter-intuitive as it may seem, i've seen studies that show that pot smoking LOWERS the cigarette smoker's risk of getting lung cancer!

Show me some proof, I'm keen to see it.

Another interesting thing is that narcotics such as Heroin are probably the MOST innocuous drugs on the planet as far as causing damage to the bodily organs goes. They simply do not increase the risk of any diseases, in and of themselves. Now, the addiction part, very dangerous, of course. But that's 99% due to the war on (some) drugs, creating the absurd profits associated with dealing these inherently very cheap to produce drugs...

7. I know i know, calm down, smoke a joint or something :P
I did say "with tobacco" and i did hint i was being sarcastic.

British users almost entirely use tobacco in their joints, hence the risk. I understand that Americans tend to not use tobacco.

Everyone understands that the risk comes from the tobacco, not the marijuana, i wasn't saying otherwise.

10. Here's a link
From Erowid, of all places. Even they have a hard time categorically stating that weed isn't detrimental to your health:

http://www.erowid.org/plants/cannabis/cannabis_myth4.shtml

Just google for "marijuana lung cancer" and you'll see that the issue isn't quite as settled as you'd like to think. Newer studies than the ones linked on the page above provide a different perspective on the issue.

2. Why the fuck are the police...
just going around and swabbing people?

I seriously hope this was all voluntary and they only testing people who were stupid enough to go along with it. Otherwise its a serious violation of thier rights.

3. There are minors
So their parents must have consented to it, perhaps it was part of the deal alowing under 18's to use a club that is normally over 18's only. Assuring parents that the place is safe and drug / drink free.

It was what ? 6 people out of 400+ ? about 2% at the most ? a bit of a non story to be honest.

12. lol
I guess "98.7% of UK youth are drug free" wouldn't sell many copies.

Got to love the media.

5. You can't smoke weed anymore, thanks to drug testing
but those Class A & Class B drugs are 'safe' because they metabolize out of your system in a few days.

9. Drug testing is now the "gateway"...
to harder drugs.

You are right, weed is more of a bust when drug tested. Much more traceable in the body.

6. so much for the 'marijuana is a gateway' drug meme
the truth is that pot is one of the only non-lethal recreational drugs out there. Thanks to drug testing, however, it would seem that the kids have decided to circumvent that and go straight to the pinnacle.

Way to go, so-called 'War on Drugs'. What a positive effect you're having on our society. :eyes:

13. stupid morons and their war on drugs.. ha!
THis story makes me laugh. Just legallize cannabis already and
defuse the problem. Once cannabis is legal, the stigma will go away,
and abuse will be seen as a problem, much as alcoholism is, and can be
treated above-board, as a voluntary thing for problem users.

Then those who would be using harder drugs, will likely just prefer
cannabis, as, though i have not tried "H", i've tried the others and
cannabis can "replace" them in the market, that legallized cannabis
and mushrooms which are already legal in britain, the need for a harder
fix can be sorted with softer ones... and the war called off.

Nooo, but we won't be having common sense in westminster.. no no...
rather we'd push our kids on to the hard stuff... stupid cowardly
trash in government and opposition who would sell out their own kids
rather than fix the law.
