House advances 'Traditional Marriage' license plate

DATELINE The House of Delegates is closer to approving the legend "Traditional Marriage" for specialty license plates despite warnings it could lead to plates celebrating unconventional forms of marriage.

The House today shrugged off an amendment that would have removed the word "Traditional", and advanced the bill for a final vote tomorrow.

Opponents argue that if a traditional marriage license plate is allowed, other viewpoints will have to be given the same forum. They say lawmakers could see requests for "Gay Marriage" or "Marriage Equality" plates.

The first openly homosexual House member, Adam Ebbin of Alexandria, says he was asked to introduce a bill for a "Marriage Equality" plate but refused because he doesn't believe license plates should be a public forum.

1. Traditional marriage
is polygamy.

Even says so in the Bible.

Are they sure they want to promote that? :D

The sections of this article are:

- Polygamy in the Bible.
- A brief look at polygamy in the Old Testament.
- Polygamy in the New Testament. Jesus allowed polygamy.
- Jesus' parable allows polygamy between 1 man and 5 women!
- My Challenge to all Christians.
- Some Christians believe that the Old Testament prohibited Polygamy.
See my rebuttal to Deuteronomy 17:17.
- Do Paul's 1 Timothy 3:2 and 1 Timothy 3:12 prove that polygamy
is prohibited in the Bible?
- Christians are hypocrites for following ONLY 1 Timothy 3:2 and 1 Timothy 3:12.
- 1 Kings 11:1-4 does not condemn polygamy!
- Conclusion.

http://www.answering-christianity.com/ntpoly.htm

Let us look at some of the verses from the Old Testament that allow polygamy:

In Exodus 21:10, a man can marry an infinite amount of women without any limits to how many he can marry.

In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines.

In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.

In 2 Chronicles 11:21, King Solomon's son Rehoboam had 18 wives and 60 concubines.

In Deuteronomy 21:15 "If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons...."

8. Jesus allowed polygamy with one man and 5 wives?
Bushco/Falwell/Robertson would crucify him again today. Or give him a medal of achievement and imprison four of the women as whores.

28. I think someone is confused here
I believe there is some confusion with the story of someone asking Jesus about a woman who became a widow, then remarried her husband's brother, then became a widow again, and married another brother, and was widowed again and married another brother, perhaps 6 or seven times in all.

The question then was, Who would the widow's husband be in Heaven?

2. They champion traditional marriage
but allow social service cuts to the most needy. Are they trendy GOP or what? Defend traditional marriage but allow social cuts to our most needy. And they call themselves Christian?

26. "Traditional Marriage"...and traditional divorce as well
Some of those yo-yo's have been married 3 or 4 times, have lovers on the side, out-of-wedlock children...and they're going to tell the rest of us what traditional is???

15. I don't care what they try to label it
...but sorry fundies, the expression TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE makes me think of the types of weddings they have in old movies and black and white TV shows. The church, the minister or priest, the standard lame vows, the rubber chicken meal and tossing of the bouquest, the dances, and of course the festooned vehicle with the shoes and cans trailing behind.

NONTRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, on the other hand, happens on the beach, in the forest, on the mountain, and it's what the "hippies" would do. Loincloths, bikinis, or odd robes, and the guy who is doing the officiating either doesn't speak much english or is high as a kite on something. Everyone is happy, but it ain't traditional. The old folks shift uncomfortably, go ballistic when there is no bathroom, and leave early. The young folks party till dawn.

So, as far as I am concerned, so long as those gay couples wear either the tuxes or the fancy dress (or a combo of both) and have a good florist and caterer, a good cheesy wedding band, and matches with the names and dates on them as a souvenir, that's plenty traditional for me!

Those fundies are not going to play with MY definition. They can try, but I don't buy!

should bear the license number and the name of the state. Enough.

25. That's absurd!
Everyone knows that the entire point of license plates is so that when Jesus returns, he can identify the faithful by their anti-gay license plates! /sarcasm

18. Tradition? Let's think up some older trads for lic. plates
Handfasting
Jumping the broom
Polygamy (it's certainly Biblical)
Polyandry
and more...

Bah -- the fundies and their traditions. They don't even know the history of their own religion. We could really have fun with this one by writing in our suggestions to the House of Delegates and the newspapers there.
