Swedish watchdog slams 'pro-war biased' Oprah
Sweden's broadcasting watchdog said on Wednesday it was censuring an Oprah Winfrey talk show for showing bias towards a United States military attack on Iraq.

The censure means Swedish television network TV4, which broadcast the show in February, must publish the decision but there are no legal or financial penalties, Annelie Ulfhielm, an official of Sweden's Broadcasting Commission, said.

"Different views were expressed, but all longer remarks gave voice to the opinion that Saddam Hussein was a threat to the United States and should be the target of attack," Sweden's Broadcasting Commission said.

1. Pro war, pro Arnold, poor Oprah
Oprah sucking up to Bush and Arnold? Some people are shameless.

2. I saw that show, but...
Oprah came back and did another show which was very anti-war. It was two days long and in fact, Bush scheduled an emergency speech on the day and time that the first episode aired. I really think she changed her mind about the war. However, it just goes to show that she should stay out of politics and stick to what she knows best-- makeovers.

4. That was a bit condescending. Oprah is a very bright and capable...
...producer. I don't always agree with her positions but she's a wonderful African-American female role model whose work and contributions should not be demeaned in such a way.

13. Yes and No
I myself have had enormous respect for Oprah. BUT -- she did the wrong thing when she gave Bush an opportunity to be on her show, and frankly she screwed up royally having Arnold and Maria on her show.

She needs to stick with what she knows, and it ain't politics.

Please don't imagine that because she's a wonderful, talented, powerful African American female who's also a terrific role model (and whom I have LOVED), that she is beyond criticism.

The "make-overs" comment was out of line and disrespectful. But your remarks absolving her of any need for criticism is equally wrong.

3. I saw her shows on the war
and both views were expressed. Even this article said different views were expressed. Oprah never gave an opinion for or against the war.

10. No it doesn't
The show was to give people the information they need to make a decision about it. She could have had only one side but she didn't. She let people make up their own minds.

19. In a showdown between the EU and Oprah
my money's on Oprah.

If the cattle industry couldn't make her back down, do you think the Swedes can ?

Beyond that, while I don't watch Oprah and therefore didn't see the episodes in question, I don't really get the point the critics are making. Are they saying that nobody may allow the presentation of both sides of a question they have already made their minds up on ?

Some would call that political censorship.

9. Oprah...Has a cover article about being happy with yourself...
And right next to it in the rack was a tabloid screaming on its cover about her 7-hour plastic surgery marathon...

14. You're saying you believe the tabloid?
That's pretty risky, not to mention not too smart.

11. In 2000, Bush's campaign turned around after he appeared on Oprah.
And now she had Ahnold on talking about how he likes to pump and cum, isn't that cute.

Fucking Oprah is a freeper.

12. She had Gore and Bush on
It is not Oprah's fault if people saw Bush and liked him better than Gore.

She should have slapped the creep. I wonder how many votes that "kiss" was worth?

20. In defense of Oprah

She does look like she is about to blow chunks just thinking of this guy kissing her....

:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

IF she did have plastic surgery as someone alleges they saw on a tabloid cover it was probably more a purification ritual following the Bush* kiss.

As far as looking to Oprah for political commentary..I don't think so. She is good for fawning over the celebrity of the day and showing already well to do people how to decorate their mini mansions. Nothing else.
