Bush Urges Iraqis to Vote, Defy Terrorists (from Press Conf.)

~snip~

On the deadliest day for U.S. forces since the Iraq (news - web sites) war began, the president on Wednesday expressed his condolences to the families of U.S. Marines killed in a helicopter crash shortly before his news conference. U.S. officials believe more than 30 Marines were killed, raising the Iraq war death toll above 1,400 for American forces.

~snip~

"We anticipate a lot of Iraqis will vote. Clearly, there are some who are intimidated," Bush said. "I urge people to vote. I urge people to defy these terrorists."

~snip~

"This will involve the commitment of generations, but we're seeing much progress in our time," the president said.

~snip~

"The story today is going to be very discouraging to the American people. I understand that. It is the long-term objective that is vital — that is to spread freedom," the president said.

1. 1. bush is such a total f*cking IDIOT.
Edited on Wed Jan-26-05 10:40 AM by LynnTheDem
2. Why the f*ck would "TERRORISTS" give a shit about an election to SELCET A GROUP who will SELECT A GROUP who will NEXT YEAR SELECT A GROUP TO SELECT AN IRAQI GOVT?????

3. The vast majority of IRAQIS including the IRAQI REBELS view the US-FORCED election as JUST ANOTHER US ATTEMPT TO INSTALL A PUPPET REGIME.

4. What would AMERICANS DO in the same situation;

China invades & occupies America, kills 1 million Americans, and FORCES an election DURING A WAR UNDER OCCUPATION UNDER MARTIAL LAW that only 50% or less of eligible voters get to vote in for UNKNOWN CANDIDATES who will SELECT A GROUP TO SELECT A GROUP TO NEXT YEAR SELECT A GROUP who will SELCT AN AMERICAN GOVT...

I suspect America would erupt into a flaming civil war and attack every polling station in the country.

Oh yeah, and 5. YOU GO VOTE in Iraq, bush. YOUR ELECTION, YOU GO VOTE in it. F*cking bastard.

2. Yeah, let's not forget this is the guy who urged the terrorists to defy us
with the whole "Bring 'em on" stunt.

"I urge people to defy these terrorists." Dude, you won't even walk down the street without your own private army. You're in no position to urge anyone.

What a loon,

The Plaid Adder

5. A good point, Plaid.
I think the key to this whole fiasco is: "The story today is going to be very discouraging to the American people".

He KNOWS what's going to happen. They know it will be a complete and utter failure. There's a thread above this one that predicts only 1 in 4 Iraqis will vote.

I'd be amazed if it was that many. My humble prediction: 1 our of 1,000.

"The Beast Bleeds", Stan Goff.

16. I thought seriously about this today...
If I were an Iraqi living in Baghdad right now with my family. I would be storing up on supplies and boarding up my home for the weekend and huddle on the floor. Just like if a hurricane were coming.

10. I urge Mr. Bush to defy the terrorist and visit Iraq ...
without the armored limo and an army of security around him. I'm not talking about just a quick touch and go on the Baghdad airport runway. Go there and take the same risk you are asking the Iraqi people to take. Go there and walk the streets and let the Iraqi people see their brave liberator isn't afraid of a few terrorists.:scared:

13. Bush Urges Patience As U.S. Toll Grows
WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) urged Iraqis to defy terrorists and vote in Sunday's election, and sought patience from anxious Americans as a Marine helicopter crash Wednesday pushed the U.S. death toll above 1,400.

"The story today is going to be very discouraging to the American people," Bush said on the deadliest day for U.S. forces since the Iraq (news - web sites) war began. "I understand that. It is the long-term objective that is vital — that is to spread freedom."

He lashed out at critics who say Iraq has become too costly and deadly, suggesting that such second-guessing could hurt the U.S. mission. The administration plans to seek $80 billion to pay for war costs, bringing the total since the Sept. 11 attacks to more than $300 billion.

"I think the Iraqi people are wondering whether or not this nation has the will necessary to stand with them as democracy evolves," Bush said. "The enemy would like nothing more than the United States to precipitously pull out and withdraw before the Iraqis are prepared to defend themselves."

More than half of Americans think it's unlikely that Iraq will become stable and democratic, according to an Associated Press poll. Undeterred, Bush said he is leading the nation toward an honorable goal — in Iraq and across the world. "I firmly planted the flag of liberty," he said.

19. Iraqi's wondering whether we'll stand with them?
The Iraqi's are the ones who are killing our troops, you ignorant fuck!

Here's the really bad news, folks. If you're waiting for the body count to get high enough that some sense will sink into this guy, you're going to be waiting a damned long time. His got his vision of the world, which is like some semi-retarded peyote hallucination, and he's going to stick with it regardless of the facts or the consequences.

It's going to take a revolt by the Congressional Republicans (which won't happen until this time next year as the mid-term election campaigns start to gear up) to bring an end to this fiasco.

21. Yeah, easy for him to say!
I'd like to see him go to a polling place in Iraq on "election" day. I wouldn't come anywhere near a polling place on "election" day. One would have to be nuts to risk one's life for an election that is merely a show for bush and has no other meaning (since the country is so insecure because of him).
