Gay Marriage Foes Turn To Defeating Gay Civil Rights Bill (Oregon)
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/01/012405oregon.htm

Two organizations that spearheaded the drive to amend Oregon's constitution to ban same-sex marriage have now turned its sights on a bill that would provide civil rights protections for gays and lesbians.

The Oregon Family Council and the Defense of Marriage Coalition say the legislation is unnecessary and have vowed to defeat it.

The legislation would ban on discrimination against gays in employment, housing and public accommodations.

3. we know what's wrong
they've committed to a life of abstinence and sex only for procreation and they think everyone else should be just as uptight and unhappy as they are.

After they're done trying to control what we can and can't do with our bodies and lives, they'll probably start in on required number of children, church attendance, any sect but theirs.

What is wrong with those people? They are fundamentally not the same as you and I and more than half of America.

2. that's fine
because they are quite proud that they are using the word "sexual orientation", and not homosexual.

You see, the first time someone kicks someone out of an apartment for being straight, they'll figure out that the law is indeed necessary.

This group is nothing more than a very thinly veiled neo-nazi group. If they couldn't focus their hatred on gays, they would be focusing it on Jews or minorities.

To the state of Oregon: if you let these people get the better of you then you cannot claim to be any better than Nazi Germany before they were willing to admit that there might just be a problem with the anti-Jewish political agenda.

5. Exactly! Now my hubby and I will hire ONLY gay employees
and specifically state we will not hire heterosexuals. Since legislation stopping discrimination based on sexual orientation is deemed "unnecessary" by this group, they should have no problem with that, and I don't want to hear a word from any of em..

And now, for the real issue and not the facetious rant...

Jeez, keep on stirring the gay pot you neocon puppet assholes, and hope we will not notice our country swirling down the toilet....

I am sick to death of the hatred certain so called Christians have for other human beings, we need to shut this kind of crap down in the most brutal of way, by calling them on this stuff. If our elected officials do not have the gonads to come out in public and state "it is Christians like this that give the Christian religion a bad name in the world, and all of you other decent Christian need to bring these haters into the fold and reindoctrine them on the true meaning of Christianity." or some such other.

We either stand and fight, with every ounce of street savvy we have, or we will fall...it will be that simple, no middle ground...none

8. From the State of Oregon
We have a saying around here: "Thanks, Lon." It refers to Lon Mabon, guiding light behind the Oregon Citizens Alliance, which put the gay discrimination measures on the Oregon ballot in 1992 and 1994. Groups like Basic Rights Oregon, No on 9 Committee, and the Community of Welcoming Congregations came together to fight these measures and reduce Mr. Mabon to political irrelevance. We say "Thanks, Lon" for galvanizing our efforts.

While we failed to stop the gay marriage ban in 2004, it passed by the narrowest margin of any of the ballot measures in the country, with a considerably lower percentage than it did in other states.

We're gearing up again, shocked and chagrined at our loss in 2004, and I predict a ballot measure repealing the one passed in 2004 will get on the ballot and keep coming back until Oregonians repeal that odious bit of discrimination if the courts don't rule it unconstitutional first. The forces that are trying to pass discrimination laws are real loudmouths, adept at getting in front of cameras and microphones, less adept at getting legislation passed.

Thanks for your concern, but we're ready for these bigots, and they won't be succeeding again here in Oregon now or any time in the foreseeable future.

4. I'm so sick of these people
How perverted, and truly vile, these people are, who have nothing better to do than to encourage hatred. Why can't they understand the concept of equal rights for all citizens? They claim the legislation is unnecessary; as long as there are vile, hateful people like this group, it is very much necessary.

6. Maybe what we really need IS reverse-discrimination cases
Perhaps deliberately discriminating against straight people is the way to go.

Seek out opportunities to create test cases.

Especially if BOTH the plaintiff AND the defendant are in on the plan.

"Apply for the job, I'll reject you for being straight, and then you sue me, ok?"

For the truly ballsy, there's always "hate crimes" against straight people.

A band of gay leathermen could start trouble outside a redneck bar and go on a straight-bashing spree, "Go home and fuck your wife, breeder! Real men don't eat pussy, you chick-banger!"

7. Sounds like a good idea...
Short of giving these people ethics implants, we have to do something. Of course we need laws to prevent discrimination, but since they claim we don't, your idea might work out nicely. Can you imagine the sniveling, pathetic reactions they'd have?

White, straight males don't have to worry about fighting for basic human rights, they consider those rights their due. Well, gay, female, lesbian, and minority groups have had to fight for every right they have, and they should be entitled to without question, but in practice those rights are denied.

I can imagine how I'd feel if I were rejected for housing, employment, etc, for no other reason than the fact that I'm a grandmother. Anybody else would be considered, just not grandmothers. Maybe, if these hate mongers were capable for a fraction of a second to consider how they would feel themselves if they were discriminated against, then we wouldn't need the laws. They refuse to even consider anybody else's feelings, so we have to have a way so that all our citizens have equal rights.
