Abortion Foes Stage Protest of Roe V. Wade (* calls in his support)
By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) told abortion foes on Monday he shared their support for "a culture of life" and claimed progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.

"We need most of all to change hearts and that is what we're doing," Bush said as anti-abortion activists marked the 32nd anniversary of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion with a day of rallies, protests and other activities.

The issue took on new urgency with the likelihood of a high court vacancy.

Bush addressed marchers by phone from the presidential retreat at Camp David, Md., where he had spent the weekend.

1. Yeah...well head up their ass America voted for this clown
And he ain't going to be happy until he turns this into a Christian Nation and I really, really hope he tries to do this.

That will be the end of him and his ilk.

We are not going to be preached to by this swine.

But we won't be able to do anything about it, because they own the
voting machinez, and they'll own the Supreme Court too.

2. you must NEVER listen to *. It does damage to your health,
your mind and your soul.

I he really going to pull this off? I don't know whether to laugh or cry. In an ideal world it'd be just grand if every pregnancy was wanted, if there was no stigma attached to teenage pregnancy, or if there was a good home available for every child birthed and then rejected. But this is not an ideal world.

6. Did you also see the signs?
There was a group of women, each holding up a sign that read, "My abortion harmed me."

There was another group, carrying signs that read, "I regret my abortion."

In his phone call to the protesters, Bush mentioned that he wasn't only focused on changing law, but also changing "hearts."

Ummm, wasn't this also his strategy with the Iraqi people? Didn't he set out to win their "hearts and minds" as well?

I guess this means that us pro-choice-ers can look forward to losing our electricity and water and that our houses will be reduced to rubble.

/sarcasm off

15. Jennifer O'Neill, the former model & actress
was on C-Span this AM, spouting this line.

She's the head of some group: "I had my abortion, & I regret it, so now outlaw it for everyone."

Her activism grew out of her decision to "accept Christ."

She was also blessing the callers & the host.

20. Oh. My. God.
Yeah, I'm watching it right now. It's some of the most pathetic bullshit that I've ever seen. Neither Ms. O'Neill, the government, Planned Parenthood, or anyone has the right to tell me what to do with my body.

I hate this culture of life bullshit, especially since it's so hypocritical. She talked about the "thousands" of good people who are willing to adopt. I've always thought that they can march their asses down to the orphanages and adopt a disabled child, or an older child, or a minority. Poor things want to hold out for the white baby, though. Those good people. Those saviors. And then they advocate for the deaths of thousands of innocent children in the Middle East.

There are too many layers of "fucked-up-ed-ness" about this "culture of life" bullshit. Just like everything else with them it's the "culture of the lives that WE see fit to protect."

One woman called and said she'd had an abortion at 16, and another at 19, and now she regretted them. Apparently she hadn't regretted the one at 16, since she had another.

It deflates the self-righteous bubbles they live in to be reminded that this issue is about women and the very real danger they will face if Roe is overturned. They try so hard to keep the focus on romanticized notions of pretty little bundles of joy and delightfulness of all things baby.

when you 'needed' it, but now you're going to pass judgment and tell a woman what she can or can't do with her body? F*ck you and the horse you rode in on, O'Neill! Man, I hate hypocrites! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

She thinks outlawing is going to 'prevent' killing unborn children? Back to back alley abortions, more deaths from mothers dying of infection, etc.

10. Gee...maybe since they are "murderers" by their own standards
They could be prosecuted for their "old crimes" once they get their way and reverse Roe V Wade?

After all there is no statutory limit on *murder* is there?

I cannot even imagine the hypocrisy of having an abortion oneself and then turning around and claiming those doing it are murderers.

How is it that the right winged whack jobs always manage to have it both ways?

14. Then they should turn themselves in for murder and spend some time
in prison if they regret it and think it should be illegal. I hope they don't think they should be grandfathered in for murder if that's what they believe. These freaks can't hold their argument because it's weak and full of distortions. If you don't believe in abortion, then don't have one, period. Leave my body as a women ALONE! Make laws against mens penises before you tell me what to do with my womb.

27. sorry if this has been posted before
but there are some GREAT stories here:

"The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion"
pure hypocrisy from the right

http://mypage.direct.ca/w/writer/anti-tales.html

quote

"I have done several abortions on women who have regularly picketed my clinics, including a 16 year old schoolgirl who came back to picket the day after her abortion, about three years ago. During her whole stay at the clinic, we felt that she was not quite right, but there were no real warning bells. She insisted that the abortion was her idea and assured us that all was OK. She went through the procedure very smoothly and was discharged with no problems. A quite routine operation. Next morning she was with her mother and several school mates in front of the clinic with the usual anti posters and chants. It appears that she got the abortion she needed and still displayed the appropriate anti views expected of her by her parents, teachers, and peers." (Physician, Australia)

"I've had several cases over the years in which the anti-abortion patient had rationalized in one way or another that her case was the only exception, but the one that really made an impression was the college senior who was the president of her campus Right-to-Life organization, meaning that she had worked very hard in that organization for several years. As I was completing her procedure, I asked what she planned to do about her high office in the RTL organization. Her response was a wide-eyed, 'You're not going to tell them, are you!?' When assured that I was not, she breathed a sigh of relief, explaining how important that position was to her and how she wouldn't want this to interfere with it." (Physician, Texas)

"In 1990, in the Boston area, Operation Rescue and other groups were regularly blockading the clinics, and many of us went every Saturday morning for months to help women and staff get in. As a result, we knew many of the 'antis' by face. One morning, a woman who had been a regular 'sidewalk counselor' went into the clinic with a young woman who looked like she was 16-17, and obviously her daughter. When the mother came out about an hour later, I had to go up and ask her if her daughter's situation had caused her to change her mind. 'I don't expect you to understand my daughter's situation!' she angrily replied. The following Saturday, she was back, pleading with women entering the clinic not to 'murder their babies.'" (Clinic escort, Massachusetts)

"We too have seen our share of anti-choice women, ones the counselors usually grit their teeth over. Just last week a woman announced loudly enough for all to hear in the recovery room, that she thought abortion should be illegal. Amazingly, this was her second abortion within the last few months, having gotten pregnant again within a month of the first abortion. The nurse handled it by talking about all the carnage that went on before abortion was legalized and how fortunate she was to be receiving safe, professional care. However, this young woman continued to insist it was wrong and should be made illegal. Finally the nurse said, 'Well, I guess we won't be seeing you here again, not that you're not welcome.' Later on, another patient who had overheard this exchange thanked the nurse for her remarks." (Clinic Administrator, Alberta)

end quote
