Bush to Boost AIDS Funds; Critics Say More Needed

By Adam Entous | January 22, 2005

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will propose $3.2 billion for next year to combat the spread of AIDS globally, one of the few increases in what is expected to be a tight foreign aid budget, administration and congressional sources said on Friday.

In his 2003 State of the Union address, Bush pledged $15 billion over five years to help combat the spread of HIV/AIDS, mostly in Africa and the Caribbean.

"It is an extraordinary commitment and we're making good on it in exactly the way we said we would," an administration official said of the $3.2 billion figure.

(snip)

AIDS activists say Bush's budget request falls short because Congress authorized up to $3.8 billion for 2006. They say Bush should commit closer to $6.7 billion next year, one-third of the estimated global need to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.

1. Is there anyone left who beleives these lies?
Where is all the money Bush promised in the past?

Why does anyone listen to anything these people say?

They lie, and they lie for no reason other than that they can.

And people still beleive them.

Amazing.

3. this thread is a good example of where people's heads are at...
...even on the liberal side. The fact that this thread is dying compared to the more sensational topics, is a good example of why Bush can get away with this.

4. I think it's because we've been through this so many times. He pledges
funds and then reneges on the deal. There is no hope with this administration that they will spend any time or money fighting AIDS

2. What is the money being spent on?
It doesn't matter how many dollars he spends, if it's going to be spent on abstinance only education combined with lies about the effectiveness of condoms.

7. Read the article...he is absolutely lying again...
...this is another example of how low they will go. Imaging the people that are suffering that hear this and believe it?

8. I know. I think about just that
I remember all the hope he gave those in Africa...just to snatch it from them. Like he feeds off the pain it causes.

10. The "bring 'em on" debacle came when the stump was in Africa
promising money for aids for a photo op (gone bad), and as far as I can tell not one dime has been delivered.
