Symantec exec gets U.S. post (cybersecurity)

WASHINGTON - The Bush administration named Symantec Vice President Amit Yoran as the nation's new cybersecurity chief to lead government efforts to combat online hackers and terrorists.

Yoran will take on the job at the Department of Homeland Security amid industry concern that the administration hasn't elevated cybersecurity to the level of prominence it deserves.

Yoran, vice president for managed security services at Symantec in Cupertino, will also be chief coordinator of the U.S. government's international efforts to protect global computer networks.
