Americans are trying to discredit me, claims Chief Scientist
The Government's chief scientific adviser is being aggressively targeted by American lobbyists trying to discredit his view that man-made pollution is behind global warming.

In an interview with The Independent, Sir David King said he was being followed around the world by people in the pay of vested-interest groups that want to cast doubt on the science of climate change.

Last year, Sir David said the threat from global warming was greater than that posed by international terrorism and he has criticised the Bush administration for pulling out of the Kyoto treaty to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Since then, he has given many lectures to international audiences but found individuals among them who are there solely to create the impression that he is presenting biased information.

1. It's the trademark of modern day conservatives

"If you can't discredit the TRUTH, then discredit the source." That seems to be the Rovian motto they apply to everything. From trashing the UN about Iraq's WMD, to creating false doubts and fake controversy over the theory of evolution, to discrediting every writer or journalist that ever had anything bad to say about Junior... it seems like their MO.

I'm not surprised they would pay big bucks for people to harass and discredit scientists telling about the harsh consequences of our actions in the environment.

4. I wish the NAACP & the ACLU could form some support group
out there for Left-leaning people and offer protection. Because I don't think the Rove style politics is going to stop. They've snookered the U.S. out of two major presidential elections. Why stop now?

2. He needs to inform his fellow scientists about this so they can...
identify these scumbags.

It shouldn't be too difficult to at least identify that they are NOT qualified scientists because they should know everyone within their field.

And challenge them when they dispute the facts by demanding to know their credentials.

3. The Boy King has declared that that's not "sound science"
and that he'll be going ahead with "sound science and a thorough cost-benefit analysis".

Who is Sir David King to complain? What common impudence! :sarcasm:
