BBCNEWS: World trade talks 'collapse'
World trade talks 'collapse'

The world trade talks in Mexico appear to have collapsed without agreement, on the final day of discussions.
After four days of talks rich and poor nations remained deeply divided on agricultural subsidies and rules on how countries should treat foreign investors.

"It's over," said George Odour Ong'wen, a Kenyan delegate, the first to leave the talks after their apparent failure.

"The chairman is calling the delegates to announce that the talks have collapsed," he told waiting journalists.

1. Rich nations
do not want to eliminate subsidies, and level the playing field.

Globalization when it suits us...self-interest when it doesn't.
