Britain, US shelve report on Iraq banned weapons report

LONDON, Sept. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Britain and the United States have decided to delay the publication of a full report on Iraq's weapons of mass destruction after inspectors found no evidence that any such weapons exist in the country, the British Sunday Times newspaper reported on Sunday.

Efforts by the Iraq Survey Group, an Anglo-American team of 1,400 scientists, military and intelligence experts, to scour Iraq for the past four months to uncover evidence of chemical and biological weapons have so far ended in failure, the paper said.

It has been expected that a progress report would be published Monday, the paper said, but some British lawmakers on the parliamentary security and intelligence committee have been told that this has been delayed and no new date set.

The paper also said British defense intelligence sources confirmed last week that the final report, due to be submitted by David Kay, the survey group's leader, to George Tenet, head of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), had been delayed and may not necessarily even be published.

but I fear the numbers may have shown that too few in the US care anymore whether there were or were not WMDs, so why put a stick in that wasp's nest when you don't have to by pretending that WMD paperwork constituted a threat.

The White House may have decided, based on numbers showing that Americans a) don't care, or b) erroneously believe WMDs have already been found , that their lies have sold well, so why fool around with success.

As I was flipping through my three rabbit ear channels, I just heard Brit Hume on Faux saying that the "only people" who suggest that we went to Iraq for oil were "al jazeera".


Why can't we all be blind sheep and just allow George the Conquerette
to keep his supporter's SUV's filled with gasoline cheaply.

I, for one, am sick and tired of all this bashing of our duly selected leader who is just trying to liberate an oppressed people of all that polluting oil in their ground. Those who say our leader doesn't care about the environment have their eyes closed. In 40 to fifty years, all that polluting oil will be removed from Iraq and the Iraqi's won't have to worry about the petroleum bubbling up from the ground and destroying their drinking water.

Newly disclosed Cabinet Office documents show that the Prime Minister's categorical assertion was based only on a single source and was attacked as 'too strong' by a senior intelligence official. The same official attacks the dossier's descriptions of the graphic effects of mustard gas and VX, a nerve agent, as 'grossly misleading'.

The production claim, which remained in the dossier despite warnings from experts, was repeated in Blair's foreword to the dossier and, more crucially, in the key Commons debate on 24 September last year after the dossier was published.

He told Parliament: ' concludes that Iraq has chemical and biological weapons that Saddam has continued to produce them.'

17. Does anyone remember in late May (I believe) when it was anounced that US

was going to stop looking for weapons because they had more important things to do.

I don't know where they got that "scour" notion in that one paragraph, but there's no report because the US hasn't bothered to do any searching. If they searched and didn't find anything, they could at least report on that (and I know that's the claim the article makes, but I don't believe it).
