Gonzales disavows torture tactics
By Mark Sherman, Associated Press Writer | January 6, 2005

WASHINGTON -- Attorney general nominee Alberto Gonzales drew scorching criticism from Senate Democrats on Thursday for his role in Bush administration policies on the treatment of terror suspects. He repudiated torture tactics and vowed at a contentious confirmation hearing to abide by international treaties on prisoner rights.<snip>

"America's troops and citizens are at greater risk" because of administration policies that are "tantamount to torture," said Sen. Patrick Leahy of Vermont, the panel's top Democrat.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., told Gonzales that policies he supported or helped formulate "have been used by the administration, the military and the CIA to justify torture and Geneva Convention violations by military and civilian personnel."

As Gonzales' confirmation hearing got under way, the White House refused to provide senators additional documents his role in the decision to allow aggressive interrogations of terrorism detainees.<snip>

"This is not about your intelligence, this hearing is not about your competence, it's not about your integrity -- it's about your judgment and your candor," said Sen. Joseph Biden, D-Del. "We're looking for candor, old buddy. I love you, but you're not very candid so far."<snip>

1. We have ways of making him talk
And since he argued for them, he should have no objections. I think 72 hours in a stress position might loosen them lips. But which one? They all sound so good. Handcuffed to the door of his cell so he has to stand on tiptoes for three days? Handcuffed into a fetal position and thrown on the floor for a few days? Or my favorite, handcuffed to a retaining fence and forced to remain bent over for a few days.

3. What reason do they give for not releasing them
I know they will give some bogus reason but they should at least be forced to make it.
