Gen Pinochet under house arrest
BBC

Chile's ex-military ruler, Gen Augusto Pinochet, has been formally put under house arrest, a day after the Supreme Court ruled he was fit to stand trial.

Court officials delivered the arrest order to the general at his country residence in central Chile.

Gen Pinochet faces charges of murder and kidnapping.

They relate to Operation Condor, a joint campaign by South American military governments in the 1970s to eliminate left-wing opponents.

1. From Channel 4 News:
While under house arrest, Pinochet will be guarded by a military police battalion.

Will Thatcher now come to visit him in detention?

Or is she too busy banged up with son Mark in South Africa after stumping up his bail bond for his role in the Equatorial Guinea Coup Plot?

Must be one hell of a day for the Riggs Bank....

2. I'd say #2
Blood is thicker than water, and I'd bet my house that this isn't the first time she'd had to save his ass.

Pinochet secret police investigated
January 5, 2005

Santiago: A Chilean judge is investigating 10 secret police who worked under the former dictator Augusto Pinochet on a disinformation scheme.

Judge Juan Guzman Tapia, who has brought charges against Pinochet, has opened investigations of 10 agents of the feared DINA secret police, including the retired general Manuel Contreras, founder of DINA during Pinochet's rule from 1973 to 1990.

They are charged with conspiracy in the deaths of the filmmaker Jorge Muller Silva and seven others also missing following their arrests between August 1974 and February 1975.

The group, last seen alive at Villa Grimaldi detention centre, are among 1198 people who went missing during Pinochet's military regime and are feared dead.
