BAGHDAD, Jan 5 (Reuters) - An American soldier was killed and two others were wounded when their patrol came under fire in northern Iraq, the U.S. military said on Wednesday.

It said insurgents attacked the patrol with guns and rocket-propelled grenades in Tal Afar, near the restive northern city of Mosul, at about 2 p.m. (11 GMT) on Tuesday.
