U.S. Hopes Tsunami Aid Will Help Anti-Terror Drive (colin powell)
http://wireservice.wired.com/wired/story.asp?section=Breaking&storyId=970570&tw=wn_wire_story

JAKARTA (Reuters) - Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Tuesday he hoped American aid for Asia's tsunami victims would strengthen U.S. and regional security by removing any discontent that could fuel terrorism.

Powell, touring three countries ravaged by the Dec. 26 disaster in which about 150,000 people were killed, said Washington had sent money, ships, helicopters and aircraft for humanitarian reasons.

But there were U.S. and regional security interests in providing aid to help countries recover from such disasters, he told a joint news conference with Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda in Jakarta.

"We hope that through these efforts people will see that the United States is committed to helping those who are in poverty, to those who are not able to educate their children, to those who are looking for jobs and need a country that is based on law and order," said Powell.

"We believe it is in the best interest of those countries and it's in our best interest and it dries up those pools of dissatisfaction which might give rise to terrorist activity," he said.

3. What a NARCISSISTIC NATION WE ARE!
It is all about the UfuckingSfuckingA!! Yes, let's not try to show compassion for the sake of Humanitarian concern over such devastation, let's tell them right to their fucking faces that we expect them to take off the UBL shirts and kiss our ass and pledge to never say a bad word about our Warmongering ever again!!!!! And to allow Halliburton in immediately!

I turned on CNN Headline news for 2 seconds this morning and heard the talking head say something like "Next up we'll go to a school in New York to see how American children are handling the horrible stories and pictures from the Asian tsunami disaster. Are millions of American kids suffering?"

Yeah, let's demand the freaking Sri Lankans donate their last dimes to the "Save the Traumatized American Children Who Watched Your Horror on TV" fund.

4. OK, Powell has a point here
We will make more progress in preventing terror through good works than through aggressive war. Economic disparity and American foreign policy are generally agreed to be the key motivators for terrorism against America, right? But if Powell and Bushco will not take their own advice and divert resources from leveling Iraq to rebuilding SE Asia, then yes, it is just self-serving PR.

8. Let's see: Another $100 billion to kill Muslims in Iraq, against $350m...
...for all of tsunami-ravaged S. and SE Asia.

Thank that's enough to buy off all that Indonesian public opinion?

10. There's only one real way to slow terrorism against the U.S.
Stop the unilateral, and unquestioning, support for Israel over the Palestinian issue.

11. It always comes down to what's good for them, not others doesn't it?
They probably would rather have pictures of our money and soldiers helping the Tsunami victims on the news as opposed to the vast amounts more they are spending of US$$ and soldiers in Iraq with death and destruction and then have those economically devasted regions be financially "indebted" to them in the future....

They see oppertunities for themselves, they take it....Brother Jeb especially took the opportunity for a photo op in prep for his 2008 run....they have no honor or integrity....they just use whatever they can for themselves and portray themselves as "righteous" and "pius"...

13. Too bad the signatories to PNAC didn't embrace that concept.
Since the neoCONimperialists have vastly incited contempt for the USA, it will require a long-term commitment to trust-building before any "discontent" will be "removed".

*sigh*

They don't hate our freedoms,...they hate our policies.

14. If we weren't in Eyerack we could REALLY help out - and then we would have
even less terrorists, Colin. Less because we wouldn't be making more and less because we would have more resources to help the victims.

21. Fishing for compliments, are we?
"We hope that through these efforts people will see that the United States is committed to helping those who are in poverty, to those who are not able to educate their children, to those who are looking for jobs and need a country that is based on law and order," said Powell.

"The United States is committed to:"
1) helping those who are in poverty
2) those who are not able to educate their children
3) those who are looking for jobs
4) a country that is based on law and order

Why don't you and the rest of the Bushistas try these "commitments" HERE first?

So far, you're 0 for 4!!!
