Baghdad Suicide Car Bomb Kills at Least 6 -- Police

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A suicide truck bomb attack on an Iraqi security checkpoint near an entrance to the fortified Green Zone complex on Tuesday killed at least six people and wounded at least 40, police said.

Witnesses said a fuel truck rammed into the checkpoint and exploded. The powerful explosion echoed across central Baghdad.

Tuesday's blast followed at least two suicide car bomb attacks on Baghdad on Monday. One of the attacks killed two policemen and a civilian near interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's party headquarters.

A fuel truck blew up at an Iraqi security checkpoint near an entrance to Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone area on Tuesday.

So far 10 people have been confirmed dead in the blast and 58 others wounded, police said.

Describing the attack, witnesses said that a truck rammed into the checkpoint then exploded. The explosion echoed across the Iraqi capital.

Baghdad’s Green Zone area houses the Iraqi interim government, as well the U.S. and British embassies.
