Arab states press UN council to shield Arafat
http://famulus.msnbc.com/FamulusIntl/reuters09-12-125621.asp?reg=MIDEAST

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 12 — Arab and nonaligned nations asked the U.N. Security Council on Friday to quickly adopt a resolution demanding that Israel do nothing to harm or deport Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat.

The council's 15 members met for an emergency session at the request of Arab states and the 116 members of the Non-Aligned Movement at the United Nations, to discuss a draft resolution circulated by Palestinian U.N. envoy Nasser al-Kidwa.
The draft would express ''grave concern at the tragic and violent events'' taking place in the Middle East and demand that ''Israel, the occupying power, desist from any act of deportation and to cease any threat to the safety of the elected president of the Palestinian Authority.''
The text also demands the complete cessation of all acts of violence in the region and fully backs the so-called road map for Middle East peace set out by the quartet of international mediators -- the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations.

2. So you advocate the assassination of legitimate leaders?
I'm going to have to assume you wouldn't have any problem with a foreign nation assassinating the president of the U.S. either, unless you intend on being selective on who you approve for assassination.

Sharon is a war criminal and terrorist himself. Using Israel's resolution, Arab nations would be justified in assassinating him.

Is that what you want? An endless tit-for-tat between nations?

11. I totally disagree!
If they can't defend Arafat, who has been under house arrest for two years, then they lose credibilty.

4. useless resolution 2342342 coming up
If the Arab nations gave a damn they would react militarily, these circlejerk's at the UN don't do a damn thing.

5. well the circlejerks at the UN
do at least pass resolutions. But they don't have any power to do anything beyond that. It's the US and Israel who veto and defy the resolutions every time.

8. You know nothing about the UN..
Israel doesn't have veto power in the Security Council. Only France, US, Britain, China, and Russia have veto power. UN resolutions aren't perfect so when Arab states get together and push ridiculous resolutions accusing Jews of consuming the blood of Arab children I expect the US to veto it.

9. Israeli army has gone all to hell
you have a whole generation of soldiers who don't practice war, they practice beating down Arabs out in the territories. They would have lost in '73 anyway if they hadn't pulled a nuclear blackmail on the US to send more planes and arms.
